View Full Version : Looking at new cars
I was looking at a 2002 Outback Sedan today and the car basically overwhelmed me with amenities and features (H6 pwahhh). So I took the thing on the road and drive around. I test drove the car for 30 miles today with some hard braking here and there as well as acceleration onto ramps. I get on the interstate and around 60 mph or so, the rear end of the car starts giving a "ohhn ohhn ohhn" noise. The frequency picks up (pitch stays the same, just the occurrence per time interval) when I go a little faster and then past 80 mph it either disappears or just stays constant. What kind of issue could this be?

sounds like a wheel bearing to me.
That was my thought as well. Is this the type of issue that only gets worse if you don't fix it?

wont fix itself
If it is a wheel bearing, Id fix it as soon as you can. thats just me though, I like fixing things before they break or break something else.

could be a bearing. I had a seized rear caliper that made the same noises too.

as a very happy H6 owner my advice would be try to find one with black interior and vdc package although i dont know much about vdc but that McIntoch stereo is nice i've driven one when was looking for a car myself and it was very nice.
Ok...the car probably got fixed or something (I told the mechanics to look at it last weekend) so it's back on the site (carmax.com).
I tested the brakes for balance and it seemed fine. I drove the car without hands on the steering wheel and it drove straight. I also braked hard without hands and it seemed balanced. :-?
Did the H6 Outbacks ever come with black leather? I think that was only available on LGTs of that generation...
