A friend of a friend has an Outback with the H6. I haven't been able to get ahold of the owners manual to check. Does anyone know if the h6 is specified to use high test gas. They say the dealer told them it only takes high test.

premium grade fuel is recommended for the h6....

yep, 91 octane is recomended. One could take a chance with mid-grade but it might run a little sluggish

Here in the U.S. we have 87, 89, 91, 93, and if your lucky 94 octane. Most cars call for 87 over here

in the u.s. there is 87 (regular), 89 (midgrade) and 92 is premium gas

oh yeah, forgot about 91 :?

haplesspete - your octane rating is derived differently than ours though...

We have 91,96, Mobil has 97.5, and you can get 98 from BP, most of the turbo guys use the 98, It is about 10c a litre dearer than 91, you can also get AV gas, but I only know people with nissans that run that, most of them are running over 20lb boost.

I just run 96 as I am only running 17lb of boost at the most and the legacy has a good knock sensor.
we have the option of putting a bottle of octane booster in aswell. One bottle to a tank makes a bit over 102oct.
Fuel must be rated different down here or we may just get the dregs from the bottom of the barrels :-D

in the u.s. the octane rating is an average of the road/research octane number (measure of how resistant fuel is to premature detonation, or knock) and motor octane number (measure of how the fuel behaves when under load). europe and australia, which you would be close enough to, use the road octane number alone in determining the rating...

i would just like to say that i didn't know all that, but my dad patiently explained it to me :-D
