Trunk on '03 GT Sedan will not open with key or lever?

My Mom just called me from a parking lot. She can't opean the trunk on her '03 GT sedan with the lever next to the drivers door or the key in the lock in the trunk? She said the key will turn to the left but not to the right. The lever lifts but will not release the trunk. It does not bunde if she lifts on the trunk and turns the key. She has the original key to the car not the Valet Key. She did try the Valet key and it would not turn in the lock in the trunk! I think there is a small switch on the latching mechanism to lock out the use of the pop inside the car. But the key should still work to opean it even if this is triped by accident.

is her trunk full of stuff? Maybe something is resting on the cable or a latch? Can she fold down her rear seats to get to the trunk area? Won't help her now (unless she needs to get stuff out) but later you can look into the trunk with the seats down.

she might have also bumped the lock switch in her trunk and it might not open, mine sometimes doesnt open with that changed. There is also a little metal piece that sometimes gets in the way. If you look at it you'll see where it's getting caught. All you have to do is take your finger and push it out of the way and then make sure the trunk switch isnt on lock i think.. I had the problem and thas what worked for me, hopefully it helps ya :?

I don't think the seats will fold down, but you can disassemble the rear seats(few bolts) in order to be able to get in there for closer inspection.
