Gas tank / fuel tank material?

Does anyone know what early 2nd generation fuel tanks are made of? How about any other fuel tanks?

I think my tank is made of plastic and the dealer says it is. I know post 2003 tanks are made of thin metal with a plastic coating. Does anyone know what their tank is made of?

i beleive there plastic. its plastic on the outside and the inside. so i would think its plastic.

people over there seem to think it is metal. I am not so sure.

well i owned 2 late 2nd gen legacys. but worked on some early ones and ive never seen a metal tank. and droping a tank is a pita.

Yeah. I am trying to avoid dropping the tank. Any ideas? I am prepared to agree with you, since you are the only person on the internet who doesn't think the tank is made of steel :roll:
