I tried to do a search and had no luck. Does anyone know what years are direct replacement and what years will work with modifications?

I have a 96 Legacy with a TZ102ZABAA-CL which is questionable. I have a 95 with a TZ102ZAaAA-C7 which is good.
Thanks Jrobe

i believe any 2.2 tranny works with the 2.2 engine and same with the 2.5
2.2 (95-99)
2.5 (96-99)
2.2 (90-94) have different wiring because its ob1

Any 4 speed auto from a SVX, Legacy or Imp will bolt on up and plug in up to mid '98. Then they started with the phase 2 4EAT, it can be identified by the addition of the spin on external filter on the side.

The only thing you need to worry about is the final drive ratio. SVX is 3.545, MOST 2.2 autos are 4.11 and MOST 2.5 autos are 4.44. Although some early Legs and Gen 1 Turbo Legs are 3.9.

But the rear diff can either be swapped or converted to match the front diff.

ODB1/2 doesn't make a difference with the trans.

What size engines are in the 96 and 97 you mentioned.

The cars are both 2.2's. One is a 95 and one is a 96 (post 6/95).
When I do a junkyard search is says that post 6/95 is different than pre 6/95.

I wonder what is different?

there might be some minor changes in the car made by subaru that they did half way through the year. like they fixed a recall.

I was hoping to find someone that has done the swap. I would hate to pull both trannys and find out there was something different. I would think someone on here would know the difference between the #'s.

All AWD 4eat's that have the external brake band adjuster and don't have the spin on filter are directly swapable.

On the SVX board, we know about tranny swaps... People have used transmissions from every Subaru from 92-98. If the final drive ratio is going to stay the same, you need to make no changes.

If both cars you're looking at are mid 90's 2.2's they will both have the 4.11 and you are golden.

Thats what I wanted to hear.
I wonder why the junkyard split them up??

Like Decke said, probably a minor change along the way.

I'm not saying that all of the tranny's from 92-98 are identical, but they are all interchangeable.
