I got a 97' legacy in need of a bug deflector. I've seen them on some legacys and i think they look pretty cool, plus i do a lot of highway driving and the front og my hood is getting pretty knicked up. I'm a poor college kid if you know how or where i could find one for a good price please tell.

Do a google on this:
Hood Deflector E2310AS001
You should get a hit on this http://subaru.autowebaccessories.com/st ... 81_209.php (http://subaru.autowebaccessories.com/store/cat181_209.php)
Price is $49 + shipping, so around $60. Cheaper than most.

I love my bug defelctor. I think it adds a level of meanness like the eyelids do to the car too. I took it off and the leggie looked more docile, definitely a good looking mod.
And its fairly functional. We don't have one on our civic and it gets about 10x the bugs that my legacy does. Could be shitty honda engineering too ;) j/k, Honda does do a good job on their engines....

are bug deflectors pretty easy to install?

Very easy, I took mine off for cleaning and it was a snap 8)

for that model, there are only two screws and good to use alittle silicone on them. Took like all of ten minutes to take it out of the box, find a screw driver and some silicone, then put it on the car...

It's actually a little more than that...
The install kit comes with clips, adhesive padding tape, and some other small bits.
You probably don't need all of it, but if you follow instructions it could take 25-30mins if you haven't done it before.
I still haven't put mine on yet, because I need to get some silicone sealer (this is used to seal the retaining screws under the hood lip).
I'll probably put mine on in a day or two.
I got mine from the accessories link I posted above - I ordered 1.30pm EST on Wednesday, they emailed me at 3pm to say it had left the building and it was delivered from NJ to Cleveland OH by 5pm Thursday.

 forgot about the clips and the small anti-scratch pads...
still didn't take me that long, no more than 10 minutes
longest part was trying to line up those adhesive anti-scratch pads with the rubber bumpers on the back of hood deflector. Those really work good BTW, one of the clips loosened (is that a word??) up on the highway and was rubbing the side fender pretty hard. Especially when passing a rig. So I stuck some thin hard-board under the clip do make it stay better. No more problems. Works good for keeping rocks and other debris from hitting your hood and windshield.

i'd just be worried about it in the winter, getting sand and salt under it and scratching the hell outta your paint... Other than that, it looks pretty nice

it doesn't look as nice...doesn't flow with the car's exterior as well, IMO.
Pretty good price.
+1 for winter concerns though :?

Why would you be concerned about anything getting under it? It's a MAGNET. You just peel it off, wash it down?
Dry the car, wax it, and re-apply.
It gives greater coverage than the bug deflector - and you could probably cut a peice of vinyl to color match...
Even conventional "bras" create problems when the material flexes and becomes loose.

That option looks best. I don't see how anyone would get anything underneath, seeing as how it is only on the hood, so what would cause it to flex and trap stuff under it? Plus you can still see the hood lines.

I still don't think that one's gonna be as effective, it doesn't have that lip to push the air upwards...

...so what would cause it to flex and trap stuff under it?
Say you are doing 70MPH down the interstate... air going over the front and hood of your car would create a small amount of lift able to "suck" it away from the surface "just a lil bit" (lol, sorry for the lame joke to those who get it  ) but being that it is magnetic it shouldn't be that easy for dust and debris to get under it. Although I would have to say that water would get under it easily.. water carries salt from the road.. water dries leaving salt crystles behind, with any motion they will be ruining the finish on your hood, not to mention that salt also oxidizes metal
just my $.02

Hmm... The magnetbra looks a lot better than a traditional car bra, by far, and it looks like it would be much more effective. I had to take a bra off a 2000 Maxima... Under it, there was mud, water, leaves, grass, bugs, and other debris trapped, ruined the hell out of the paint. >_< We had to wholesale that car because of the damage. =\
I would be worried about people stealing the magnetbra, though. :(

even though its a magnet, people, I think it would move around (with junk underneath it) and scratch the paint...
Magnets might seem unmovable, but they're not, stuff gets in there.

If anyone has ever bothered to check, virtually all the "bra" car manufacturers do recommend regular removal of the flexible items - vinyl and magnet types any time you wash the car.
The magnetbra's are not designed to deflect dust and water, they're there to prevent rock chips etc.
I have a Subaru deflector on my GT - it works well but the placement really does have to spot on. The wing tips that wrap around the front fenders might not have equal curvature (it is plastic).
So don't buy one thinking you'll never have to remove it (unless you're like me and you never sell a car...hahahah)...

Didn't want to start a new thread so I thought I would reach out and bring a ghost from the past. <grin>
We get a lot of rock debris to our windshields here in the other Washington and was wondering if this is a good solution. I know it will work for hood but more concern about the windshield. I currently have a bra on the car but will be taking that off in the summer.

I've found I get less bugs on the windshield in the summer because of the deflector. Most rocks hit the front, and bounce up and allow the car to pass by fairly unscathed.

Wow.. those do look pretty cool. Would be even better to get a can of spray paint from paintscratch and color it to match you car!
