Recommended Brakes

Im interested in buying some a new brakes for my 98 BD. Can i have some advice on some brake calipers/whole kits that have worked well on other BD's? I was thinking about getting some StopTechs but i want to have some other options.

is there any reason why you want a big brake set up? or do u just want the bling factor.

I'd recommend upgrading to an OE set like the WRX 2 or 4-pot. Weight is the enemy of performance, so keep it realistic for your uses and needs.

I'm downgrading from 05 LGT fronts to WRX-sized because there's a 25lb+ difference in weight, and I just don't need that much braking power in a car with this power.

wilwood dynapros 4pots. use a 12" srp drilled, slotted rotors or 12" hp rotors work in the stock 16" wheels. or rotora 13" 4pots drilled slotted. work in 17s stoptech has oe calipers big brake kits to for like $400

The wrx 4pot/2pot setup is nice, but the fronts will not fit inside the stock 16" wheels.

I love my 4-pot fronts, will be going to the 2-pot rears soon also. What do you plan on using the car for?

Yeah, we have to consider wheel fitment here. What BD do you have? L, GT? If you have the GT, you have 16" rims, and you should go with WRX brakes with some upgraded pads, like Hawk HPS or the like.

Just as a note, he means pre-2006 wrx brakes. The larger 4-pots will hit the spokes of the 'snowflake' style wheel.

Well it is a 98' GT but i have 17' ASA rims on it. Where can i get WRX brake kits?

Used they can be found frequently on NASIOC. eBay will also have sets of them on occasion too.

The 98 GT might have the same caliper as the RS/WRX, so you just need pads, calipers and brackets. Consider buying good pads, cryo'd rotors and getting some new brackets from the dealer (~$65 each) if you want a setup with the least amount of hassle and new parts.

Try brake ducting if you really want to keep the rotors cool :twisted:

And WAAAAY less then that used. I think a guy asked 150 for the front calipers, rotors, and pads from me. This was before I realized I couldn't fit 'em under my winter rims.

Those are for regular 2 pot calipers.

Used 4 pots usually fetch about 500-600 depending on condition. And usually comes with pads and rotors.

Yea, mine were 750 new for calipers, pads, pad shims, pins, and rotors.

You'll need the KB adapter brackets to make the rear 2 pots fit yours or else you'll need the entire hub.
