Its a bit early for this but i got bored at work. Ill try to do a full write up hopefully with pictures once the project is finished. On with the show!
Recently, i purchased a center console from a JDM legacy. After an hour or so of trying to get a good fit i realized the obvious. RHD=reversed shifter.DOH!
I should have known before i hacked the hell out of the inside of the console. Well, i am determined to get it to fit, its too damn cool.
Basically the cardholder was first interfering with the mounting bracket of the auto shifter. So i cut that off, theres still three bolts holding it down and it isnt going anywhere.
Next, the tray under the folding lid is a bit deeper than the USDM ones so i cut away some of the console support underneath. So far so good. Next, the radio bezel has two protrusions at the bottom that basically dovetail and keep it in line with the console. The door that covers the tray will not open unless these are shortened. They need to be trimmed down about a quarter inch.
So, now im at the tricky part.
Number 1: The opening in the console for the shifter to pop up through is much smaller due to the card holder to the left of it. My only option is to start shaving down the left side of the shifter base until i get a fit. Yikes. Not what i had planned. But im pretty sure i can get it to work.
Number 2: the original shifter bezel is the same size as the USDM. Im figuring either trimming it down or if all else fails maybe fab one out if stainless steel or fiberglass. Depends on how lazy i want to be. So thats where it stands at this point. All this for a damned cosmetic upgrade! sheesh!
Ill keep you updated on progress or if anybody out there has undertaken this ordeal feel free to offer some advise. thanks, see ya soon.
