I just started having trouble with my transmission on my leggy (97gt-5sd)

say i'm in 4th gear on an on-ramp and i'm gaining speed, the engine will rev up to redline (with throttle full) and the car will barely gain speed. However when i'm off the gas a little it accelerates normally. I've tried and it does this in every gear from 2nd on, but i try not to do it very often.

just noticed a few days ago and i'm in the dark with transmissions. Is it the clutch going out? or something worse?

Thank you!

yup, you need a new clutch.

Go stock, unless you have a whole bunch of power mods.

A light flywheel replacement is one of the best things I've ever done to my car - easy swap if you're already replacing the clutch, and easily justifiable if you are having to resurface the flywheel anyway.

The genuine exedy clutches on ebay are a good deal, don't waste your time with an off-brand one though.

Here is a good example: OEM Replacement Exedy (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EXEDY-CLUTCH-SUBARU-IMPREZA-LEGACY-OUTBACK-FORESTER-2-5_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713Q2em153Q2el1262QQcategoryZ33730QQihZ007QQitemZ170196363596)

Oh yeah, either grab a lightweight flywheel or have yours resurfaced. Don't put a new clutch onto an old flywheel.

Thanks a lot guys!!!

I'm going to go with the exedy kit and call around to see how much it is to get my flywheel resurfaced, i'm kinda hoping its enough so it'll justify a lightweight flywheel

just gotta find some cash now!
