need help now !,
the problem is :
from idle to around 3000rpm my car missfires like crazy above 4000rpm it completly stops, somtimes it dosen´t missfire but it still is very very slugish and lacks all power under 3-4000rpm, over 4000 all is whell

somtimes it´s completly normal and somtimes it´s realy bad
it´s completly fine when it´s cold
when it warms up the problem starts.

hope sumbody has expirienced somthing like this.

cheers

Is it throwing a CEL?

I just had some issues with mine and it was the crank sensor. It was intermittent and it didn't throw a CEL.

it´s throwing a CEL for a defective knock sensor and rear oxygen sensor, so no nothing thad should cause this.

ok so i found it in the service manual and it´s the EGR valve,
could this be related ?
i mean the clicking from the EGR valve and the missfires ?

sounds like your car is knocking(detonation) like crazy. wouldnt really know whats causing it unless you boughts some really cheap gas, or got it from the station. or the cam sencor is going. throwing the timing off. i woulndt think it would be the egr valve all that does is reduces nox gases and that only is working during part cruize or at idle

the gas here is fine but i´m not knocking, it´s deff. missfiering, it´s driping unburnt gas out of the exhaust (yea i know it´s supose to drip liquid there but it deff. smells like gas)

the code on the knock sensor came long before it started acting like this

+ i know how knock sounds and it´s not thad.

Start by fixing the stuff that you know is wrong with the car, then you can diagnose what else is wrong with it. You can replace both the knock sensor and rear o2 sensor for less than $150.

As for the EGR, that doesn't sound normal but I doubt it's the cause of your problem. If the car is stumbling at higher RPM then I'd look at the plugs, wires, coil, ignitor, fuel filter, maf, injectors, fuel pump in that order.

I have a complete intake manifold with coil, injectors & egr if you're interested in swapping parts around. Also have a maf & ignitor.

"When the EGR valve opens, it allows a small amount of exhaust gas to be siphoned back into the intake manifold. This dilutes the air/fuel mixture, cools combustion and reduces the formation of oxides of nitrogen (NOx). If the EGR valve fails to close when EGR is not required, or if it leaks because of carbon buildup on the valve stem or valve seat, exhaust will be sucked into the intake manifold all the time creating a lean fuel mixture. This will cause lean misfire and set a random misfire code. Cleaning the EGR valve seat and stem may eliminate the sticking problem. If this fails, replace the EGR valve.

On some engines, this kind of problem may not appear until the engine warms up. The EGR valve may remain closed while the engine is cold, but it starts to leak when the engine is warm. This may be due to a weak spring inside the EGR valve. The fix here is to replace the EGR valve."

Like most said though, I would get the other stuff fixed first. I do know a dirty or messed up egr can really screw with a car as far as misfires, bad idling, and terrible gas mileage.

thad sound just like my problem.. ok the thing is, thad thing i posted a pic of is conected to the egr valve ? right ?

ok so i started to dig in and disconected the 3 vacum hoses on the top, that made it worse,
so i thougt, what if i take it out ?
so i tokk it out and while there deff. still was hesetation on the lower rpm it deff. got beter.

how do i clean out my EGR valve ?

I had an EGR stick open on my 98 Forester it took like 10 seconds of cranking to start it because of it.. and it ran funky as well (idle sagged)

Is the EGR valve something that needs to be oem or can I go to pep boy or autozone and pick one up?

Does not need to be OEM, but like others said if you have a good price on a OEM part then by all means get it.

I would start by replacing the 02 sensor especially the front which is an AF sensor.

O.k. going to show my ignorance. Where is the EGR valve? I have looked for it in the shop manual to no availe

just if somebody is interested, the problem was 3 bad plug wires

it was actually running on one cylinder sometimes

runs like a champ now

and highway mileage dropped to 7,5 liters per 100km

good to hear you fixed it. my car ran pretty funky w/ old plugs and bad wires too. strange that you didn't throw a CEL for that though...
