noise in the rear end.....???

hi everybody, i am new to this sight and new to my subaru as well. I just bought a 99 legacy gt limited about a month ago and it started making a wierd noise in the rear end. It is speed sensitive and sounds like a dull moan that you can really hear at 40 and onward. there is a lot of vibration and noise coming from rear driver side that leads me to think that the c/v shaft is bad and would bring me to my other problem. My other question or confusion, which migh be simply answered by new shocks is, i was driving the other day just after it snowed and my cars rear end would slip out a bit sending it a little left or right. It is easily corrected but this uneven traction isnt normal. im not sure but i think they might be connected. Has anyone ever encountered this before. I am hoping that a new c/v shaft and new rear struts will solve my problems. Anyone have any advise on this.......??????

well just to make sure its a c/v check the wheel bearing first. and you can see if you have a blown strut if theres oil on the strut. check rear end links too. they break to offen

Check the rear sway bar bushings too.

My car made that noise from the rear, on two separate occasions, for two different reasons.

Thee first was a bad wheel bearing. The second was a partially-siezed rear caliper. Either of those will make the wheel feel hot to the touch after a long drive.

If you are getting alot of brake dust on the left rear wheel, I would say it is a seized piston in the brake caliper. I had a '85 Celica that each of the front brakes seized up while I had the car.

well i found out my problem and it was a wheel bearing. fixing tomorrow so thanks for the input. i really appreciate it!
