We have had a few new posts asking questions that have been beaten to death. Search the forums before you ask a question. For you new people your problems are new to you, not to us. This forum has been around for close to 5 years. Theres guys on here that know Subarus inside and out. Chances are your questions have been discussed a few times. PLEASE take the time to read the forums before you jump into things.

yeah and for a 2 letter search I add a wildcard to help with that.

Have you used it since the recent overhaul a couple weeks ago? It should be working much better now.

Even so, the repetitive questions are getting a little crazy. There's also the "threads of note" sticky at the top of each forum that answers some common and important questions.

I've done it before, read an entire thread and found that someone mentioned the word in question...but had no relevance to the thread.

True, but it's the "what intake should I get?" or "what exhaust is best?" threads that we're trying to limit. Not stuff like "Pesistant CEL after sensors were replaced" or specific questions like that. It's mostly the general questions.

I absolutely agree with you. If it were just a search forum, we'd just lock the whole thing for viewing only. Obviously not.

But it gets annoying when somebody starts a new thread for suspension questions, then posts in several existing threads with the same questions, some threads quite old or even not terribly related. That makes it harder to properly answer the questions, harder for the person to get all the info, and harder for future searches, when the info is scattered all over the place.

Again - The threads of note stickies in the tech forums are AWESOME. If you want any threads added, PM me with a link to the thread, and I'll consider putting it in there if it's relevant to the purpose of the sticky.

Also - the DIY section is for writeups only, and questions concerning those writeups (within the thread itself!) ONLY. I'd like the avoid tangents within the DIY section because it's the showcase of the forum, and extremely useful. If you have other questions, they can almost certainly fit in the rest of the tech section's subforums.

I'm also happy to answer any sort of question via PM if somebody really feels uncomfortable with using the public forums. If I can't answer it adaquately, I can usually find someone who can, or I could ask the question myself.

Lastly, I don't want to discourage posting at all, it's really nice that this forum has taken off the way it has in the last year or so. When I first joined way back in May of '05, I could easily keep up with everything that was going on. Granted, lack of a job and being on summer vacation helped that a lot, but there's absolutely no way I could monitor everything that goes on here anymore, even with tons of free time. I like that, it means I'm not the only one posting.

Keep it up people, and don't be afraid to ask, just look around a little first and see if it's a question that's been answered already. If you think your question is a little more specific, please bump the existing thread with your related question.

I never had any issues with the search.

However it got really funky with me when I searched up "Car-PC" it never showed any with the name "Car PC" in the thread title but I went to the form it's self and I saw at least 3-4 topics worth here for that Subject.

yea iv never been impressed with the search here. i get angry any time i try and use it.. it really just needs a "Search topic title only" button then it would probably work great. cause its the searching through the message text that always gives u crap when your looking for something. just a suggestion is all.

also the all terms button should start off highlighted not the any terms. thats the other thing that gives pages of garbage.

From what I've seen so far you people are ALOT nicer than other people on other forums about the search thingy. And not just Subaru forums.
I may be a n00b to Subaru, but not car forums.
I did a fair amount of earching before and since buying my car.
