TPS sensor?

Hey guys, a friend of mine wanted me to do the following on a 97 Subaru outback...."any idea how difficult it is to replace the Throttle Position Sensor on a '97 Subaru Outback? Does it need to be adjusted, or are they plug and play?"

since I have experience with subies, he wants me to do it.

Yes if it is positioned wrong you will have some issues.

Physically, it's easy - it's like two screws and a harness on most Subarus. Adjusting it is just the matter of loosening the screws and twisting the sensor. However, adjusting it to the way it's supposed to be requires you to have something plugged into the ECU to determine your TPS reading so you can set the sensor to read 0 when your throttle is actually at 0. Which leads to the question - why do you think you need to adjust your TPS? It's set from the factory and unless you messed it up it should stay set correctly.

Get a voltmeter, you'll measure the resistance across some pins while you adjust. The values are in the N/A forum of NASIOC. Just search TPS adjustment or something similar there.
