I have 2 legacy's, both 1995 and both have the same problem and I'm sure
it is a common problem with both cars but can not figure it out.

2.2L and automatics in both.

No problem on flat ground, but when I start up a steep hill and they get
to pulling pretty good, they will bog down and the 1 will quit and the
other will shutter a little but keep running.

After you get up the hill all is fine.

Take it that this is at night with lights, heater etc all on.

This will not happen all the time, and that is the problem.

Daytime, no problem, just at night since that is when they are ran the
most.

I use one of them every night on a stop and go route.

Does anyone have any ideas?

New plugs, wires, fuel pump and filter.

It's almost like when it gets down so far on RPMs that some of the power
is drained away from the ignition but I don't know.

I could see if it was just the one car, but both will do it on the same
hills when it happens.

Hot weather or cold makes no difference.

Help!!!!!

Have you had the alternator replaced under recall yet? If not, check out the dealer, I believe it applies to 95 model years.

Next I would do some grounding wires. This definitely helps the electrical circuits. I'd also maybe start looking at vacuum lines. The first one I'd check to see if there's a kink in or a leak is the IAB line. This is a 3/4" hose that runs under the intake tract and then plugs in right next the mass air flow sensor (this sensor is attached to the air filter box). A common problem from people who install intakes is that they bog under acceleration, and it's due to this line getting too much or too little air.

Thanks, that is the first thing I do when I get a Subie is check recall status on them.
I have 5, these 2 LSIs, 2 '95 Outbacks and a '95 RHD postal car.
The alts have all been replaced under recall except the postal car.
There is no problem with a acceleration on these cars.
They will pin you to the seat.
Just when you put them under a strain going uphill.
The last 2 nights I have turned the heater off when starting up these hills and no problem, right up them without even a quiver.
I am not turning the heater off tonight and see what happens.

Is it possibly a grounding problem? Are you having electrical problems--lights dimming, etc?
