and CEL stays on afterward, but the trans. light goes off. I recently changed my Knock sensor ( The initial problem and subsequently my TPS--- read on---) I reset the light, started the car, and it still flashed the tranny light (about 17 times) and the CEL stays on all the way through. I scanned it again came up with the TPS. So I changed it. Went through the system again and have the same results. I tried resetting he computer by disconnecting the negative terminal, and that didnt do it. My scanner still says its the TPS (Which I changed and adjusted) Any ideas??

I think this means a code is stored with the Transmission Control Unit and not the ECU of the engine.

thanks, i'll check it out, but my car still shifts fine... so far. Should the CEL stay on also?

Did you just unhook that neg terminal and reconnect? or leave it off for a bit? I think you have to leave it unhooked for a little while in order for it to reset. Or pump the brake pedal while it's unhooked, something like that anyway.

Yeah. I disconnected it, and left it off while I swapped out the knock sensor, and again when I did the TPS. Tried it again yesterday (stepping on the brake after) and no change in either code. Gonna try tearing it down again tomorrow. I didnt have a chance to touch it today.https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2007/12/l_78ad0361071d6b04ef1284a6847b7f72-1.jpg

What was your procedure for adjusting the TPS? It requires getting a computer to read your throttle to do it properly.

I tried adjusting it manually, but found that i had to adjust the knock sensor at the same time. It got frustrating. So I tried with the scanner which has a feature that reads the system while running.

I put it back on the road recently and I have to get my emissions inspection done by today.

Any suggestions as to how to get it in sinc?

The scanner I'm using is an Autoray EZ Scan-5000

The code it gives me is:
P0122 Throttle/pedal position sensor/switch A/ Circuit low input.

Ign. Timing adv. 11.0-12.0

load value- 2.7%

MAP sensor- 7in. HG

coolant temp.- 208 degrees

Air flow rate- 0.37-38 lb/min.

Throttle Position- 0%

o2 sensor 1- bank 1-between .06-.08

o2 sensor 2- bank 1- " " .5 - .7

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

OK, Well here's a heads up on my situation. I just went to get it inspected 'cause today was the last day. Obviously, ... it failed. Checked my inspection report and it says the trouble codes present are:

1-P0122 (which my Chilton's book doesn't show. it shows from p0121 then jumps to p0125) Throttle Position Sensor low voltage. got this from Reason's post on Trouble Codes found here http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?t=6598

2-P0325 (Knock Sensor Circuit Malfunction)

3-P1700 (Throttle position circuit malfunction for AT transmission)

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just replaced 2 and 3.

How did you adjust the TPS? Did you put a voltmeter through the ECU while you adjusted it? That's how it's "supposed" to be done according to subaru (well that, or plugging it into the Subaru specific datalogger to get the right TPS voltage).

No. I had the voltmeter on the red wire off the back of the TPS on the intake.

Chiltons suck. It doesn't show that. Any idea of which wire? I doubt my book has it, or has the right 1 for that matter.

Is .5 (wot) right?

You have to set the TPS at .50 V. I would check that and go from there.

thanks. any info on what color the wire would be?

My manual is for 85 - 96 my. Its telling me there are 3 wires for the tps off the ecu.

Red

Red/Yellow

and white/black

is THIS true?

On your scanner does the throttle position go from 0 to 100% properly when you push the accelerator down?

I did not touch the throttle at all during the scan. I was told it was not necessary. I will check it again tomorrow when I go to the shop.

My gas mileage sucks and the torque is all but gone when taking off from a start.
