View Full Version : exhaust question for a 2001 LGT

I'm looking at getting a dual-tip Stromung axleback with a custom midpipe and ebay borla headers for my 2001 Legacy GT Sedan.

I was looking at some sites such as boxer4racing and subaruplanet that are selling Stromung exhausts and some of the sites/people say that the dual tip will not fit my car, and other say that it does fit..

Does anyone here know weather the dual tip will fit? or if there is a difference in sound between single vs dual?

Does your car have a cutout in the bumper for an exhaust? The duals aren't any bigger (overall area volume) so it'll fit. Might need a hanger adjustment, but with so few true "bolt ons" for these cars you have to expect that.

No there isn't a bumper cut-out on my car. So the dual tip is the same part as a single tip, just has duals instead?

Yep, it's not two seperate mufflers, just two tips.

Yeah I knew it was one muffler two tips. I meant to ask, if the dual tip is the same from front to back as the single tip?

What do you mean, same front to back? You mean dimensionally? Or some other vague measurement?

i know one is a dual tip and the other single, but like is the muffler shape, piping and dimensions the same between the two? if they are the same then the dual tip will fit my car, right?

They're the same dimensionally. The only difference is the number of tips and the sound difference that'd make.

I have the single tip Stromburg on my BE and it fits fine. It hangs just under the bumper.

I bought it and the mid pipe from a guy on NASIOC. Heres another pic.

man that looks good. i have finally come into a little money and am thinking about getting that same muffler. my problem is that whenever i look at the pictures offered up of the stromung, the hangars dont look the same as the stock. i have a BE and want to know if you had to modify the stromung to get it to fit.

i personally love the single tip on mine. i have a 2000 outback linited sedan... pretty much the same car as the pic. i think the dual tip is more for a wrx and sti. according to boxer4racing, there is no change in sound from the muffler. pdawgi can't tell, is ur car black? i want to paint the gold lower cladding black to match the car. u think i should do it or leave black and gold?

would it look odd being an outback lowered? not many people do it, but it still is basically a legacy though.

An outback IS a legacy. Does it look odd being lowered? Sure, to some. To others, no. :razz:

my bad. thought i'd ask about it since a new muffler/tip changes the overall look of the car. choosing between single and dual tip is part of the overall look.

For those still in the market, one of our customers is selling our catback for the BE chassis. This is spec'd out with our ultra quiet resonator. Generally speaking when buying new directly from us we have a limited lifetime warranty against manufacture defects; however in this case since its still new and we know the customer very well we can transfer the warranty to the new owner.
