Ok, my power antenna just fully broke off after accidentally leaving it up in a car wash and so I need it replaced. I don't want to get the same one, but rather i'm looking for a rubber, flexible type like on newer vehicles. Anyone know if they are available for my '99 wagon? I did a search but no luck. I just think power antennas are useless. Thanks in advance.

You can get the generic 'rubber' antennas they sell at most car places, or best buy.. or something. They are pretty cheap.. and i think they look awesome on the legacy. Here is a pic of mine on my other 99 LGT.

Ive actually been thinking of pulling my power one out, and putting of these in. Its a cheap and nice mod.

Nice! I like that look... but is that stationary or can it swivel back and forth? What about installing? I'd have to find the antenna adapter to attach the wire. How far down is it?

I dont know if it swiveled.. i never tried. Installing them is pretty straight forward. I think there was a DIY somewhere.. but I'm not sure where it went to.. im looking for it. Anyone have any more input on where this might be? I think the antenna adapter is on the back of the headunit however.. so, i know its a very basic install.

Here a couple of threads on here i found:

you can just use the existing antenna wire and crimp it onto your new stubby antenna. It's not a huge job.

It's not a huge job but i'm just having trouble taking out the existing antenna housing with the rubber seal. I bought a generic flexible antenna and i can't just jam it in the existing casing of the antenna. I'll keep looking though.

I know I'm not contributing, but I have the same issue with my under same circumstances, hahaha ( auto car wash). It sucks how brittle they are. I'll keep an eye on this thread or fill you guys in on some other solutions if I get the chance.

You mean the rubber gasket/base?

It's probably glued on, you'd best heat it up with a hair dryer a little and then try to push it up from underneath.

Yes, that thing.... but push from underneath where? you mean just at the shaft of it, or actually from inside the body panel?

is there any way you can pull the electric antenna out and get a really small rubber or plastic antena?

My antenna stopped going down after I installed a new head unit this afternoon, still makes the motor noise for going up and down but no actual movement. grr...
