I had ordered 2004 brackets for my 2001 legacy gt so that i could run the larger rotor up front. Well, my caliper doesn't fit. I was looking on a parts site for 2004 calipers and they have 2 engine codes EJ253 and EJ259 which have different brake caliper numbers. The 2003 has the same as the EJ253 code. What do i get? Also is there some way that i got the wrong caliper bracket from suby? They bolt on correct, but the caliper does not fit.

What is the diameter of your stock brakes? You might already have WRX sized rotors.
You might try 2002 or 2003 brackets instead.

04-05 WRX's got a completely different caliper design with a non-matching bracket...I don't know why, but they did.
02-03 are the ones that reuse the older-style 2-pot calipers.

I have the smaller rotors. I found the problem when i went to replace them and had the rotors next to each other. I don't have a WRX, I have a 2001 legacy gt. I ordered the 2004 legacy gt brackets through the Subaru dealer and I believe they are correct. All i need to know is if I have the correct bracket and if 2003/2004 EJ253 calipers will work correctly.

Engine does not equal chassis code nor relevant chassis changes. Don't use ej25x when you want to talk about the chassis of a car, there's no correlation.
Check the brake pad part no. for the 04 Legact GT and the 04 WRX. If they're the same, then its as I had said.
The calipers should work with the bracket. Explain how "it bolts on but it doesn't fit", as you said in your first post.
