Scary drive warrants front end rebuild

I drove my 93 sedan on the highway the other day and noticed that when a gust of wind or a larger vehicle passed me, my vehicle would tend to wonder from side to side. I coould be holding the steeringwheel dead straight and it would wonder.

It was at this time that I decided if I made it back home I would replace the following:

(2) outer tierods
(2) inner tierods
(2) balljoints

and a super tune-up.

anybody want to add to this??

I mean, it wouldn't directly cause this, but it could have something to do with it...

although throwing parts is never bad, it could get expensive. Check your wheel bearings by lifting up the front end and wiggling the wheels back and forth, they shouldnt move. If one does, then the bearings are quietly dying. Also climb under the car and look at the steering rack mounts as someone wiggles the steering wheel back and forth about 1 inch either side of center. If the rack is moving, even a tiny bit, in the mounts, then you need to either tighten them or replace them with some really wonderful PU steering rack bushings. Tie rods can be checked with the same wiggle method.

I'm pretty sure that replacing all the tierods and balljoints will be more expensive than getting a late model used rack from a jy.

I already purchased the outer tierods and the ball joints from ebay. I bought the inner tierods from the local parts store.

Here is the breakdown:

outer tierods and balljoints: 96.00 shipped

Inner tierods: 41.00

Allignment: 45.00

The tires are like new and were just rotated and balanced when I put them onto the sedan from the wagon.

Lets just say that I am not looking forward to installing these parts but when the ebay parts get here I will have no choice as I will be driving 100 miles round trip soon......on a daily basis.
