Hello -

I have a 2003 BE sedan. In the owner's manual, it says there is a rubber "sealing washer" on the oil pan drain plug that should be replaced every time the oil is changed. The Haynes manual makes no reference to this washer in the oil change instructions.

So -
1) Sealing washer needed or not?
2) If needed where do I get - Autozone, dealership, online?
3) Anyone know part # for sealing washer, BE sedan?

Thanks!

- Mark

You can reuse the crush washer several times. Just torque the drain bolt down, or do what I do, and buy a Fumoto Valve. No more need for socket wrenches.

When the info is provided, Subaru manual > Haynes. The dealer sells them for a few cents each - I usually get a few at a time. They should know what you are talking about when you say "Oil Drain Plug Gasket"

Well usually when I get the filter at the dealer, it comes with the washer attached to the top.

I went for a couple years without having one on. I started buying them with my filters since as mentioned they are very cheap.

I know I'm reviving a thread from the dead, but what size are these washers? I don't really want to buy them online or drive to a dealership.

They're slightly larger than the drain bolt diameter.
I think the bolt is an M20 x1.5

If you can't get new ones, heat them up a bit. The copper will be as good as new.
