Frozen Caliper

My front driverside caliper is frozen after a recent brake job... do those need to be replaced in pairs, or can you do just one?

Survey says one side is good enough, as long as its the same as the other side.

Hopefully this will be good info for someone else in the future.

dealer recommended replacing them in pairs because they usually fail soon after.

I can actually attest to this theory - I replaced 1, and a couple months later the other went out.

Then the rears went...

It ended up not being the caliper - the break line was busted inside the hose. Found that out after I replaced said caliper and it still wouldn't un-freeze...

Shitty, easy fix ($10 part, 2 day wait) - still annoying though. Also, someone else might find that useful down the line.

Brake line replaced, issue has gotten better - car now rolls if you shift into neutral when going 20 (instead of basically stopping dead) and can be pushed when in neutral, but still a slight glow and the wheel is heating up more then the one on the other side… just far less then before. The fact that it no longer steams/smokes is probably an improvement too…

Taking it to a shop to see what they think - I've replaced every brake part in the damn wheel well lol.

Well, a corner shop informed me that the piece that holds the brake pads in is shot/frozen - I wasn't even aware that piece moved. So I went back to Autozone and they said that I could pick up a new one at a nice discount ($50) since I had just bought a Caliper there a few days before... normally, it's only buyable with the caliper itself.

Well, if this fixes it I'm still well under the original quote (~$700, I think I've sunk $300 in it with this last part and the inspection I had).

It doesn't move itself, but it should allow the pads and the caliper to move. Usually a bit of cleaning and lubrication is enough...

yeah i lubed mine up and cleaned them up. may even be new ones that came with my calipers but my driverside one is still sticking/rubbing...

Yeah, that grey part with the slider bolts - I still can't believe that part actually moves!

We have floating calipers. The whole thing does move, though not much.
