Sti muffler or wrx muffler no sound difference?

I was deciding today what to buy and while I was conversing with a friend I was told that a 2.25 custom cat-back into an sti or wrx stock muffler would sound stock. Now the other day on here I was told that set up gave ample rumble? So im asking some of the experienced Leggers to tell me if it will be a noticeable sound difference for sure. Now I am aware that the wrx muffler has alot of walls through it.

I was also wondering if a wrx muffler would be worth it? Would it make a difference?

Why are you set on one of these two mufflers? There are plenty of aftermarket mufflers that will give you any sound you're looking for, even almost stock (Borla hush is what it's called I think?). They arn't even that much more expensive than a WRX/STi muffler if you look around.


As for your question, I would assume a WRX muffler would be quieter but I'm not positive.

02-04 wrx muffler won't change the sound much. 05 and newer WRX mufflers are the same as STi muffler only without the badging. Think single tip mufflers here. It's the dual tip WRX mufflers that sound bad (they chirp, and are more heavily baffled)

The STi mufflers/05+ wrx mufflers will give a little bit of rumble to a naturally aspirated motor. If you think about a turbo, it is driven off the exhaust gases, so the impeller is absorbing gas and sound energy, thus a naturally aspirated motor is always louder for a given muffler.

There are other options out there, and with the SPT muffler being only $108 and bolts right on, it's something I'd look at. I myself have bought mufflers most people don't bother to try and have been pleased with the results thus far (obx and hooker)

but how sound effective is the SPT muffler? Knowing the set up will be stock headers stock cat and 2.25 or so cat back. And can I get a link to the $108 spt mufflers.
