Washing Engine Bay?!?

ok my engine bay is friggin gross after this long Buffalo NY , so now i want to wash my engine bay. However Im really worried about the Electrical End of everything getting wet!, Anyone got any tips! or things they have done for this???

unless you have something loose or exposed nothing will happend to your engine even if you pressure wash it. but take a can of engine degreaser spray what ever is really dirty let it sit for few min then take a garden hose and rins off. it will shine. in areas where you can use a rag to wipe off dirt use it.

cover the alternator, battery and or other exposed electrical wires with a plastic bag or something. then spray some engine degreaser (you can find it at advance or autozone) then hose it off with a garden hose or at your car wash...i do it at my car wash...since its pressure wash :lol:

if you use degreaser dont use it on pavment(at your house). can make the ground very slippery and you will have a oil stain on the ground. if your one of us lucky ones with cracked knock sensors just wait for the engine to dry of so you dont get any CEL. and have the car drive like you only got 40hp

ohh hurray, that sounds friggin great... mabye i will just give it a good wipe down with a rag, or mabye to take it to detal sonic and have them do it, i think they charge like 45.00 and that includes the interior clean as well

best way to clean stuff.. use aluminum foil. cover the alternator, and spark plug ends on the ignition box.. and you should be good to go.

I washed mine bout 2 weeks ago and fried my alternator stupidly.. it was weird because before when I was at my friends i sprayed it.. and it didnt do anything.. but this time around it fried it.

Simple green + aluminum foil + toothbrush + pressure washer = WICKED CLEAN! :D

I have to do it sometime soon!

I've always avoided washing the engine bay metal because these cars like to rust alot. Has anyone considered this before they wash? Water might get trapped everywhere.

^ If you have an air compressor, you can use it to push the water out wherever it may be hiding.. or.. if you really wanted to go all out, you could rub some type of oil on all the metal pieces or something!? :lol: I'm not sure.. never really considered it. Not like its going to rust anymore than it already is! HAHA.
