Will it make it?

As a part of my college career I have to do 3 co-ops, I just accepted a job for 6 months at www.natc-ht.com (http://www.natc-ht.com) in carson city, NV

My question is will my daily driver, 95 legacy 2.2 with 198000 miles make it from Rochester, NY to Carson City, NV over 3 or 4 days. History of the car. dealer maintained until I bought it, I have prefromed all maintance (oil change every ~3,000 miles, new brakes, new exhaust, new oil pan) Overall it has been a good car for the 15,000 miles I have put on it with no major problems but I am just not sure that it will make it. Plus I don't want to get stuck in the middle of the Country somewhere.

I had the same icky feeling when i had to travel to wv...knowning my subaru could break down any sec at anytime of the day..and knowing my bad luck, it will happen. So I franticly switch to a reliable car, that i know it can take a beating and reliable enough to go across the county.

if your subaru's well maintain like you said, it wouldn't be a problem. but if you have butterflies everytime you have to travel like i do...i switch to a reliable car instead. it's not worth it breaking down in the middle of nowhere...especially at night :shock:

It's not that it isn't reliable, I would not hesitate to drive it for 10 hours striaght but across the country might be pushing it, it has never broken down besides an alternator. I have AAA plus (100mile free tow) so I could always have them drop me off at an autoparts store and do the work in the lot, I always carry my tools. Did the V-8 swap with hand tools :)

I am thinking that I get it out there then buy a newer rust free car, the Northeast SUCKS.

Drive it. As long as you're not hammering off the redline every gear change, it'll be fine.

I drove mine from Terre Haute, IN to Dallas, TX and back in a week with 225K on the clock - she is beast that just keeps on truckin

I've driven my car several times up and down the east coast

1500 + miles each way.

Couple of things I may suggest you bring and things that I always have in my trunk emergency bag:

12v Tire pump / Green slime tire stuff

Maybe an extra crank pulley belt (damn I wished i had that the first time I made this trip)

Extra Alternator belt possibly?

Couple of tools such as 10mm, 12mm, 14mm and an adjustable.

An extra thing of oil or two.

Also check all your fluids before you go and top them off.

oh.. and lots of music and redbull! :lol:

I've driven up and down the east coast 9 times, all in cars that ranged from the ages of 89 - 99 and they all did great!

last year i went from NYC to Tampa Fl and back, minding that i had a blown headgasket and little over 270k miles on it. total trip came close to 3k miles in a 5 day period. it did begin to overheat on me a few times on the way down and only once on the way back when we hit traffic. So go for it just keep you speed constant and dont go too hard on it.

^^^ Yup, and if you don't already have one, make sure you got an auto club membership (AAA, Countrywide, etc...) :smt023 just in case.

dont ever put green slime in a car tire. its only made for slow moving tires like bicycles and lawn tractor tires to fix leaks. if you put it in a car tire that will be moving at freeway speeds it will cause the tire to become extremely unbalanced and the car will shake violently FYI.

Ya I got AAA Plus which is up to 100 mile free tow, as long as there are members on the way I'm set :lol:

Your supposed to rotate the tire while doing it.. that way it gets an even coat on the whole inside.. but yeah, it can do that. Id rather deal with that then be stuck out in the desert however.. haha.. its basically a LAST resort.. id use the donut tire first! :lol:

Sounds like you are set - I wouldn't hesitate to do it. Have a fun trip :)
