 Hey every body. I am new to this. I just got a 2000 Legacy GT wagon. It is stock and I want to do a few things to it. I am going to buy the GT scoop hood for it but I don't know where I can find it. Can any body help me out?

3rd gen GT hoods don't have scoops, you need a Baja hood.

That's my thought as well. Might as well spend the money on something else lol

it's called scoop envy. The toyota 4runner guys have it as well when they don't an SR5 model.

You'll need to get a baja hood, as only the 96-99 GT's/outbacks had the scoop.

Thank you for informing me that it is the Baja hood. I do plan to get a turbo for my legacy but I want to do body 1st. Do any of you know where I can find a Baja hood?

Thank you 2.5GT and _RM_ for your excellent support.

From the info I've seen, turboing a legacy is more trouble then it's worth. In most cases, it's cheaper to sell the car then buy a '05 with the turbo. Your mileage may vary though.

Also, as a fellow BE owner - the scoop looks great, who cares if there isn't a turbo under the bonnet...

Because you just spent $1000 for a hole in your hood that doesn't do anything?

(Sorry silentracer, I just had to troll you BE scoop guys   )

Well it's more like $700-800. Unless you don't mind flat black primer right?

Anyway, that's enough money for a FMIC and the labor to install it too

I always kind of wondered what the point in having a BE was at all actually...I mean 300 more pounds, no more horsepower...

For those complaining about the hood hole, are you driving on steelies? Probably not- And that super custom exhaust that added 2 horsepower and 50 decibels?

You can find the hood at the dealer....or from a wrecked baja turbo (unlikely)
You will need 2 pieces: The hood and the scoop insert.

Model: BE/BH (Baja)
Part #: 57220AE01A Desc: Hood Compl F (00+ BAJA HOOD WITH HOOD SCOOP) MSRP: $339.95
Part #: 90821AE020NN Desc: Grille F Hood (BAJA HOOD SCOOP INSERT) MSRP: $106.53

Don't get upset, a lot of us here like to break balls and give each other a hard time. If you are sensitive and can't pick up on jokes or sarcasm, you might have a hard time here.

you want to have turbo engine?

rather than turboing your NA engine, which may harm your internals... dispose your current engine... then buy a stock ej20 turbo engine...

you might be interested on this... i have a ej20tt manual transmission... complete with tranny, ecu and differential! :)

Gotta jump in:

1) Baja hood w/ scoop - $250 (right place, right time)

2) BD's looking like Contour's. That's just a sick comparison, for shame on you

3) SilentRacer's foglight comeback, quite funny.

Done.

Most cases you don't just paint the hood. You need to repaint the fenders to match and most shops will suggest this. Paint ages, the shade tends to vary from a new coat of paint vs.one that's a couple of years old even if they're the same color. Its somewhat more obvious on the hood and fender since they're both big areas and lined up next to each other.

$600 is more of the average, I was quoted $800-1000 for paint from a very good body shop here in Detroit (they do mostly european cars but many subaru owners have had work down by them). That's on the high-side of things of course.

I'm sure you can get it cheaper, but having been on the receiving end of crappy paint/repair jobs on other cars in the past, paying $400 for a hood only to get a half-assed paint job that a) doesn't match the paint shade and quality of the rest of the car and b) will more than likely turn to crap in a couple of years would be extremely counterproductive to your aesthetic modification.

ConnertheCat

A good paintshop can usually get it to match without having to paint the fenders.

What's the big deal? If I had a BE, one of the first things I get is a scooped hood too. This thread is becoming pointless.

you can get by on a black "Bonnet"

Later on down the line repaint the whole car

Thats what I was hoping to do. I was trying to maybe find the hood in a black that way it would be good enough until I get my car painted down the road. My car is a black looking car but it is actually purple so black would work. Thanks.

Ordering the things online is more trouble then they are worth - shipping may damage the item, and probably cost more then the discount you'd get.

Just ask Basser.

We all put allot of things on our cars that do nothing and are just for looks. IMO, the scoop on the BE/BH is the nicest cosmetic mod you can make, regardless of its function. That being said, that mod is further down my list than other more functional mods - but I am looking forward to having a scoop back after my past 2 Scoobies had them (functional though).

And as far as looks, the BE/BH maybe not the prettiest Leg out there, is quite heavy, and is very hard to find aftermarket parts for by comparison, but I like mine. I hope to change a few things from a Blitzen wagon/sedan (if I can get the money) to make the car look a little more striking - it is a bit too bland for my liking, even with the gold rims

I'm surprised that no one has pointed it out. The BE is really the only car that can make the hoodscoop functional without a turbo. The intake box is right there...

I think it's a nice piece. However, as much as people on this forum seem to make fun of ricers and how their cars look, I find it a bit ironic that they don't think of themselves just a LITTLE BIT of a ricer for putting a non-functional hoodscoop on their BE.

Just an observation

I got quoted $300 from a decent shop.

I said forget it and went to Maaco and just had them paint it, no blending on the fenders. $167.92. It doesn't look bad at all without blending even on a 8-year-old car, so it'll probably be fine on a newer car. It's still a Maaco paint job though... can't complain for the price.
