For that price you are better off getting a new set of Megan coilovers from me ;-)

First off ... wow great forum.

My quest to find out if this very set of TEIN BG coilovers will fit my BD lead me to SLi. I can't believe that I havent found this place sooner. Better late than never I suppose.

I have a 97 GT and the stock struts are showing signs of age. I have read numerous posts here on swaping GD WRX stuff to the BD, but I have read a few posts were the WRX aftermarket parts resulted in a serious drop (+2") dont really want to go there. [AGX/STi pinks] Maybe that is bunk ..

From what I have read the simplest solution is the GR2/H&R combo ...

BUT I am thinking that for close to the same money this coilover set maybe a better plan, because I can adjust the ride height for winter ( assuming that they dont rust solid ) So ...

Has anyone used a BG setup like this on a BD?

The info I could find on TEIN suggests that the rates are 336F/280R (lb/in)

TEIN doesnt list this EBAY "kit" as compatible with the BD but it does list the SWG kit as working with both the BG and BD it lists rates as 224F/224R

The BG drop is -45mmF/-40mmR (range -55 to -35 F/-50 to -30 R)
The BD drop is -25mmF/-10mmR (range -35 to-15 F/-20 to 0 R )

Obviously the front is a no brainer, [ebay kit] but how about the rear?

Are the rates high? I dont have a feel for the LGT suspension. I have much higher rate springs on my mustang.

Is travel going to be an issue?

Issues with tire/wheel clearance with coilovers on subes?

Is it just generally a bad idea to buy used JDM coilovers on ebay? I would never do this with domestic stuff.

Sorry for the long post, I have had my LGT since 2002 but have never really toyed with it until now.

I think I know a better place for this discussion.

Fair enough, please disregard my reference to this specific listing .... The BG chassis has more aftermarket support than the BD.

The GC-BD suspension is well covered, has anyone done a BG-BD install?

BG will go straight into the BD.

As for spring rates, the rears might be too high given that the BG has an extra 100lbs on the rear because of the glass hatch etc.

However, I would NEVER run TEINs in the winter in the salt-belt areas. Sure, OR or CA or some of the east coast areas might be fine, but not the mid-west or north east.

If anything, I would keep the stock suspension around to hook back in for winters. That way you save wear and tear on the nice TEINs.

it totally makes sense that either the rate or ride height won't be optmised when swaping springs between BG BD. The BG springs should be higher rate due to the increased weight. The springs are either gonna be too tall ( hence the diff in ranges above ) or pre loaded to decrease the height which will give the but end a higher rate. Hello evil handling.

That was my theory anyway ... But if you look at the spring rates the wagon kits aren't that outta line with the sedan rates.

Regardless of theory sometimes stuff works, I figured if anyone had tried it it would be here.

I hear what your saying about the winter its a killer, sooo I am now thinking gr2's and stock springs how lame.

Why not some aftermarket springs ?

I used to feel the same way. I wanted TEIN's on my BD really bad. I loved how they ride on my friends WRX. So when I got my BD I wanted TEIN coilovers and never found BD specific coilovers. After reading few threads in here I decided to go with springs and GR-2's too

After posting I did some more reading here on SLi ... awesome ... anyway I came across a post by Kraziken describing his whiteline control springs.

I stumbled across his car a long while back on cardomain .... it is a blueprint for everything that I think a LGT should be. Anyway, he described wanting a minimal drop but a fresh suspension, x2 here

I think that I may go the whiteline controls, and perhaps the sway end links as well.

I did the wagaon spring thing a while back on an old muscle car I had, it was a huge mistake. The spring rates were totally unmatched, soft in the front and rock hard in the back, it was f***ing scary, looked retarded, I hated it.

I would never cough up $1500 large for the coilovers at this point there is just too many other things on the car that should be done first, not to mention the risk of winter. At $600 ish I was considering it, If they need rebuilds I could still easily be into it for $1000 and still have spring rates that arent designed for my car.

Thanks!
