What do you think of this high flow cat converter?

The price is certainly right! I had a high flow cat lying around that I wanted to use when I installed/fabricated my sti catback. Problem is that it is of 'conventional' converter shape and I'm having a tough time fitting it. The only place it will fit is in the large cavity for the #2 converter and resonator but the rear o2 sensor will not reach it there and I don't want to deal with extending wires and what not. The converter linked above claims high flow and the shape is much more compact and round. By the looks of it I'd say the body of the converter is roughly 4-5 inches.


Given the low price I guess I am questioning the quality of it though.

Thoughts? Opinions? Experiences?


Sidebar: While was under the car today mocking things up for the exhaust I noticed my less than 6 month old OBX header isnt looking so pretty. The polished surface has given way to oxidation and browning. I don't see any rust per say but are they as 'stainless' as they claim to be?

I also noticed the sti axle back and mid pipe make very different turns when compared to the factory legacy system... more headaches perhaps!

obx headers are only made of 304 stainless the cheapest in the world. has very little nickel in it. can oxidize and even rust.. as for the high flow cat you could make a custom pipe for were the test pipe is on obxs. and the sti mide pipes are different then the legacys. most people make custom midpipes and just use the sti axleback.. for the ebay cat.. i dont know seems like its just a testpipe with a screen in it.

Get a name brand cat, it never pays to go with a cheapie when it comes to cats.

I think you can still get universal Magnaflow cats for like $70 on ebay. I think it's about the same for a catco.

I've got one, i was trying to do my exhaust on the cheap, so I bought an eBay cat exactly like that one (if not the same). It is a real cat, but the steel is shit-tastic to say the least. Hard to weld, oxidizes super easy, and overall just not too great of a product. If it's cheap you're looking for get it... It is a catalytic converter, but you may want to drop the other 15-20 for a namebrand one.

Also I have a sneaking suspicion that the way they have it constructed... it adds a "tinny" sound to your exhaust. I had to add a second resonator to counter-act it.

I have a catco high flow but I can't fit it where I want. The random tech cats look like they are the right shape for my needs but I don't want to drop that much cash on it.

Ya, I opted to go with my existing catco rather than use an inferior product.

I'm just going to have to put the cat further downstream then I would like, it is going to go in the channel where the 2nd cat fits in the factory system.

Any ideas on how loud a system consisting of unequal length obx headers, high flow cat and sti muffler would be? I think I will also use the sti resonator to hush up any rasp.

get something that's actually metal substrate. I'm willing to bet that 37 dollar one is not. It will perform better all around.

If you really want to go on the cheap, Catco or Magnaflow would be OK choices.

Randomtech and Stromung are nice (I have a stromung) and are already setup for our vehicles, but they're pricey.
