JDM BE trunk

right now im talking to JDM place in canada about B4 taillights for my BE. they told me that they will have a set coming in soon, but it is the whole trunk, spoiler, and lights. i do not need the whole thing, just the lights. i was wondering if anyone out there would be intrested in the trunk?

That's funny, I'm getting a JDM BE trunk from them as well. I guess they've got more than one comming. Supposed to be here this week.

Actually, I've already paid him half the cost of the trunk. I only want the trunk, the tails are being sold to another guy here in Ottawa, Canada. Spoke with him on Friday and he told me the trunk was in Vancouver and it was expected to arrive early this week.

The trunk (tails) you want to get is still in Japan, so it is a different one.

Is the spoiler the same as the USDM one?

Yup, xcept for one subtle difference. See pic below. There's this groove running parallel to the spoiler lip. Kind of a nice little difference.

I'm almost 100% positive my spoiler has that little grove too.

Well, I do not claim to know every detail of the legacys from 2000 - 2004, but I know mine does not have that groove and mine is an 01. Show us a pic.

You don't know it but you bought it anyway. The US and JDM trunk is exactly the same. Nice going genius.

Yes they are the same to the untrained eye, but there are subtles differences (B4 badge on the left, SUBARU badge on the right instead of AWD), that in my opinion would make my car a little more unique. Besides, you just replaced your Legacy Badge with the B4 Badge and hey that is fine if one can do it, but, not possible with the Legacy GT Badge. Another reason I got the trunk lid is that my dealer screwed up the installation of my spoiler, dumbasses mounted it to far out, looks stupid (oh well, any excuse to buy JDM parts) Of course there is the fact that Japan has wider plates than us so I will have to mount my JDM license plate frame in order to mount my plate. I have the same frame for my JDM front bumper and the gaps are not that noticeable.


blackgtbeauty: Yes I checked your pics and I see that you have that grove, funny how mine doesn't have it and it's the same year.

Explain how the license plate area on a 2nd gen Legacy is smaller on the JDM trunks vs the USDM? Are you getting it mixed up with European plates?

The area is the same, just the holes are more spread out. CDN and US plates are 6in x 12in whereas Japan plates are 6.5in X 13in. That's all. You will not be able to properly mount US plates unless one is ready to drill new holes through the trunk lid or the plates, the holes don't match up.

Well, my spoiler was put on about 5 years after the car was bought by the original owner (a now mid 50s woman) so I suppose it could be JDM... just highly unlikely.

I think they had both the non-lip and the lipped spoilers on the US cars (supply varies)...Jlav's 03 BE has the lipped spoiler too, and I thought it was an aftermarket one. I've seen other BE GT's with the non-lipped spoiler so it's a toss up IMO.
