my fing sunroof all of a sudden just took a big old dump on me this morning!!!!

Never really had any issues with it before but I think it came off track or the track broke or something cuz I can slide it by hand all I want now. I can here the motor motving and the see stuff moving in the track but the sunroof stays in the same spot.

Great fing timing!!! Right when I am buying a house and I dont have alot of extra cash for this to be fixed, if it can be fixed!!

Thats t for my mornign rant. at least we have sunny weather right now but I knwo the rain is coming again

Dealer will charge you about $1000 to fix it... there's a lot of labor involved to remove the interior (supposedly).

Is this what is happening to the others that are having sunroof issues?

I dont know about you guys but now a days I dont trust leaving my car at a dealer. We have had some cars broke into at dealers here and in Seattle.

Welcome to the club, thats where all my money goes. trying to get my house on point, It never ends, so be warned!

Sounds like the gear on the motor stripped or the chain snapped. See if you can find one at a junk yard, you are in the right area.

Yeah my townhouse is brand new so not much work needs to be done to it right now.

Yeah I am going to take it to a dealer and see what they say and see how much it will actually cost. I will probably take the roofing off to make it easier for them. I will do this once I get into the new place since I have a 2 car side by side garage

NICE! Then you are pretty much set.

Have them take a look at it and see with the problem is. It might be an easy fix.

Oh man that sucks I'm sorry to hear that!

I went to the yards this past weekend (Foster U-Pull-it & the one in Damascus) and they had no BD's, let alone one w/ a moonroof.

If I had to take my car to the dealer, I'd go to Wentworth or Lithia.

At least the weather is cooperating at the moment. Does your new townhouse have garage space?

oh yeah is the NW ever going to have a meet?

Not sure. We never really had enough Legs to get a group together.

I know me, whiteh2o and kraiken are going to try and get together for a photo shot some time either later this month or early next month. Probably will be up in Seattle area sine both of them are up there and I dont mind driving up there.

Anyways back to the sunroof. I can open the sunroof with the switch but I cant close it. It is def the cable the opens and closes it or the connections that go to the cable. It looks like it will be a nice big hassle to fix cuz I think you have to pull everything out to even get to the cable.

Anyone have an explosion diagram of the sunroof assembly or know where I can get one? I dont mind taking it to the dealer but im a "do it yourself guy" and i like to learn new things so I wouldnt mind trying to do this on my own.

It sounds like the same problem my old BD suffered. The internal working of the casing (the glass is inserted into a cassette, which is bolted to the car) broke, meaning the glass would open, but not close. When I pushed it closed, it failed to raise the back edge so water would come in. I had to lift it closed using some rubber foam spacers.

The dealer said that to repair the problem required ordering an entirely new cassette which was about $1000, then about $600 for labor.

Once you drop the headliner you can get at the whole assembly. Not screwing up the headliner would be the hardest part.

Alternatively you could drop the whole thing out and just install a non-moving sun-window with some Lexan glass, you'd drop about 100lb of weight and be very unique.

yeah but I love having the sunroof. During summer is the best time too. I like openning it at night and being able to see all the stars and get fresh air.

I will fix it, just may be a little while tell I do.

Have you talked to any of the tuner subie shops? I bet PDXTuning could do it for less than a stealership.

I have called a local suby garage/shop (Mt. Tech, only works on subies) and have left a message to see how much they can do it for.

Since it is not an after market thing I wouldnt expect the performance shops to really do something like this.

So Mt Tech has said the tracking/cable assembly failed. They have never seen it before. They are hooking me up with a used good track so everything (parts and labor) is costing me $800
