I just went and looked at a 97 outback with a 2.5 DOHC

135,000 miles

20,000 miles ago the whole engine was re-gasketed

they want 500 for it, what do you guys think about swapping this engine with mine

I know it is pretty much plug and play but I would like to know some more info....

I need to change out the exhaust manifolds, thats nothing.

what about the clutch/flywheel, would my 2.2 clutch and flywheel fit or do I have to buy a new clutch/flywheel

I have been told I can use my 2.2 tranny or should I just buy a used 2.5 one from the junkyard??

LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED PARTS I WILL GET RID OF THEM CHEAP

It'll drop in without any issues...you'll need to make sure the ECU is plug n play.

Aren't the wiring harnesses different?

no, I had bought a 1997 2.5GT ECU from the junkyard for $40 because mine was shot....I unplugged my ECU and plugged the other one in and it started right up..

No, I meant like, aren't there more sensors on a 2.5?

Besides any wiring issue, eveything should be cool.

I'm not sure....that is what I am trying to figure out....I guess I am just going to have to try it myself....I'm pretty mechanically inclined, it shouldnt be too hard

If your car is running a 2.2 on a 2.5 ECU, and it's not having any problems, then I can't see why dropping a 2.5 engine in there would be a problem.

yeah that is what I was thinking.....it just plugged right in and started right up.... I noticed it had a little more "torque" in first and second
