ok i hear BD and BK and stuff like that i know that they are basically the type of legacies but which is which...and which one exactly is a gt?

just by letter code you cant tell what one is a gt. not 100% sure on this

GT is just the trim.... BD, BK ect is part of the chassis code. The GT trim is used in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gen Legacy.

the 7 number code under the vin to the left
an example is gc8e2sd is a 22b
or you can decode the vin to find the trim

heres the decode 1st # model 2nd # body 3rd # engine 4th # year series 5th # numbers of doors 6th # model type 7th # tranny
or you can call it the chassis code

You have a 2001 Legacy GT LTD...so your VIN will probably start out with 4S3BE6 or something like that. The 4S3 means it was made in Lafayette IN, the BE means it's a 3rd gen Legacy Sedan, and the 6 is the engine notation. I'm not totally sure if it actually is a 6, it could be a 5 or a 4.

i have a 1998 GT...i was going to get a 2001 but it was $2,000 more than this one and my mom wouldnt let me get it

I'm pretty sure they are all 6 - there was only one engine available for the LGTs (outbacks had an option).

Yeah, there's that, but I'm not sure when the H6 came about, and that probably affected the EJ25's number designation.

In 95, the EJ22 was a 6, but in '96 the EJ25 was a 6 and the EJ22 was a 4.

Looks confusing (like an EJ22 is a 6 (cyl), but in 96, they raised the liters in the 6 and produced a EJ22 4 cyl )

wow now im really confused, i need to look at my vin more closely, becuase im sure it has an ej25 in it, however i have a 2002 BE,... im soo lost!

Don't sweat it - you have an EJ25 BE. All BE's came with the SOHC EJ25(unless you have an import JDM car).
