I'm a sucker for yellow lighting... what can I say. So, spray the backside of the projector lense with yellow stain glass paint so that the lense isn't bright yellow to people just looking at it but instead has a sheen of yellow. Then do the fogs.

Also, you need to do something with the back. Maybe paint over the "subaru" part of the tail light section in black, then some JDM tails for the corners?

Perdue
05-22-2008, 10:14 AM
I'd just get some yellow bulbs instead of spraying the lense. Hella sells some yellows in both bulb types. www.rallylights.com (http://www.rallylights.com) And I like the blacked out look. Pretty bad ass. Did you respray the bumper yourself? Looks like it's got some orange peel in it. Nothing some 1000, 1500, and 2000 grit sand papers followed up by some polish can't fix though.

$4800 + interest and then at the end you'll have 2 options, to buy out at an INFLATED price or to give it back to the dealership and then have no car but you paid over $5k for the privilege of driving someone else's car.

Bad move. You're young, don't make the mistake.

WinterKnoll
07-23-2008, 02:39 PM
I made this mistake...though I had no choice really. My Legacy will be mine finally after two years next month.

Reason
07-23-2008, 03:20 PM
2 years isnt as bad as 6 years like I had mine. Although I did pay mine off a month shy of 5 years. Car payments + car insurance + anything else you have to pay = no fun. I myself will stay away from car payments as long as possible.

wait now im lost..im gettin the car in less than a month (if all works out w/ the dealership and my dad lol) ..so ur saying i shouldnt lease it? instead i shud buy the LGT w. the turbo or the Spec B  hehe....

Never lease a car. In fact you should never have a payment plan on a car. It just doesn't make sense. you PAY someone else for the privilege of driving your car?

Instead if you want a $16k car, you should start putting the "monthly payment" into your own pocket, and in a short period of time you'll have enough to buy that $16k car outright, AND by then it'll be an 08 model anyway. And you'd have the opportunity to buy a newer model.

If you buy new, in 4 years your car is worth, on average about 75% less than what you pay for it. Obviously some cars hold their value (if kept in showroom condition) better than others.

But cars are a completely depreciating investment. They will almost NEVER make you more money. They are money pits.

If you want to know about regret, just ask Perdue.

Have you also considered the opportunity cost of $200 a month over 2 years? Or even 4 years? There's a TON of stuff to do and places I could go on $200 a month.

You're young, so you have time on your side. But getting into debt over WANTING a car is the dumbest move anyone can make. And plenty make it every day...but just because everyone else does it, does that make it right?

What if you crash the car? What if you get laid off and can't make the payments? The car gets repo'd, and then you have no car.

It's just a car. Why put your long term financial success in jeopardy just because you want a big chunk of steel?

Honestly man, your dad is most likely going to tell you that I'm full of crap. Seriously.

People that have leased multiple times are basically stuck in a mindset of "I will always have a car payment, so I might as well drive something nice". Way to go, pioneering America!

But if you do the math, it totally makes sense to avoid car payments. The only people who win longterm at this game are the finance companies.

And I hate to be picky - but your family never owned those Honda Pilots. Did you ever have the title? The title was probably stamped with Honda Credit or US Bank or something.
That means YOU took the depreciation hit, PLUS insurance on a new car (higher than an older used vehicle) PLUS paying the finance company for cleaning and maintaining THEIR car.

Take the money and save it up... then buy the car you want, when you have the money.

Let me show you some math:
http://www.daveramsey.com/etc/lms/drive_free/

Shoot when you have the cash saved up and you really are RICH, then by all means, go out there and buy that brand new car. If you work that hard, you deserve it!

That's normal. It's called car FEVER. You want the latest and greatest. And believe me, people will "help" you to get it - but they won't be there when it gets hit, stolen or you ding it up. They will blame you and avoid making any kind of help or support.

This may not be fair to some dealerships, but the vast majority of dealers don't like warranty work, and they HATE cash buyers like me. They make no money off us.

On the subject of payments... Yeah, car fever messes things up reeeal good. i NEVER wanted to borrow to buy a car. Why the heck would i pay a bank interest, when i could keep the money for myself, and get the interest payed to me.

So I was busy saving, and had 4K in the bank, including the value of my 2.2L Liberty. One night while cruising trademe (NZ's little ebay) to check out the prices on 97/98 GTB's. When it appeared... A 98, BG5C, GTB, manual, LIMITED, IN BLACK - and for only $8000!! - Yep, without a moment's hesitation i borrowed 4K and had my dream car. Problems with the car? It didn't come with the infrared key, and the previous owner smoked in it. MINT, the rest of the car was immaculate, interior, exterior... engine....

Yeah well, after i payed it off, i quit my impossible job to resume full time study, and a week later the big end bearing went. Thank GOD for parents - otherwise i'd be rooted up the rear with a pineapple.

I now owe them a great sum of money which i do not wish to disclose, but it is at mortgage rates thankfully, not credit card or lenders interest.
