Hi all. I just got a 95 twin turbo Legacy, first, what do i need to know? anything important i should be doing or looking for? Secondly, I have two switches on the centre console, one has a snowflake and says 'hold a t' and puts a similar light on the dash. (Im assuming its a 'snow gear' or diff lock??) and the other has like a wiper arc with heaters in it. (heated washers?)
What exactly does the power button do? I know of course it alters the shift points etc but can anyone tell me in a bit more depth?
TIA
Andy
Oh yeah, and whats the BD and BE thing about?

the second one is probably for heated wipers look at your wiper blades is there an orangy looking thing underneath them on the windshield if so then they are heated.

errm, in answer to the previous.. I had a Ford cosworth with a snow gear and all it did was made the car set off in second gear and lowered the shift points.
There is a little electrical relay/switch/fuse thing under the hood which says 'diff lock'
BD thing, yep, thanks got all that now.
Heated wipers..wow! i had a car with heated washer jets but never wipers, ill go look for an orangey thing in a bit..oh! do you mean a heated bit of screen under the wipers? its raining at the minute, ill wait!
beep? funny you should say that, if its locked and you pull on the handle, it beeps from somewhere. whats that about?
Oh and another thing it has is a little black square thing inbetween the map light switches on the roof. is it a infrared receiver for a remote locking fob? if it is, is there any way i can get one cos i only have the one key and no fob?
I dont actually know where you guys are, states? Im in the uk and the car is a jap import.

I have the "winter mode" in the volvo, all it really does is start the car in second gear.
I wish I had a turbo or at least some horsepower

Their are allot of stuff on my GT-B that just puzzles me also, Heated side mirrors, i pressed that button on the console but it dosent click & lock, so i am guessing its to heat something up temporary, not sure what and their is a motor in the trunk where the jack is and it has a cable release system to it, and their is a ECU in the dash where the ash tray is

Sorry that came across wrong! I wasnt being sarcastic I meant whats the difference as i dont know! I usually drive American cars and have only got into the scooby by accident. I bought a legacy gs wagon for about £300 just to drive around in while i waited for a suspension arm for my 86 Chrysler 5th avenue. I liked it that much i went and bought the twin turbo but i havent looked into all the little details yet so im a bit of a newbie to it all.
mines an estate (wagon). is that a gt b then?
And yes, im in the uk, hence the long wait for a suspension arm for the 5th!

I want to know why Insurance for a wagon is harder to get then a sedan? They are almost the exact same car...

Ok I got me a handbook. So, the snowflake icon with 'hold a t' on it is indeed a snow/ice mode. it alters the gearshifts so they are smoother. The wiper arc is indeed heated wipers and the 'beep' that you get when you lift the handle is part of the keyless PIN entry sytem. I have the instructions for setting it up but I cant do it as you need the infra red key to put the system in program mode which i dont have. (anyone any idea how i could get one? I have my local Subaru dealer looking in to it but I dont hold out much hope as its an import).
If anyone wants toknow anything from the owners handbook just ask.
(I also found out that if you tow the turbo auto, you dont have to disable the AWD like you do with the others. they use three different awd systems)

You should never tow an AWD car. You flatbed them. Towing the AWD-disabled autos is a last resort, and should only be done for limited distances.

you should never tow an auto either. I realise that but if you look in the book it shows a fuse that you insert to disable the awd for towing (limited distance and speed) . What i was saying is that in the turbo auto, you dont do ths as it is a different system to the manual and the non turbo auto (both diferent systems)

ok guys dont laugh, i owned BG's for over 2 years now, i am just finding out my car has a remote lock and unlock mechanism, i saw the button on my key and i thought it was for a light or something to see the key hole, how i found out was i was in the white one and i had the GT-B key in my hand, i pressed the button and low and behold my locks opened.. on the white one.
One sec lemme take a pic of the key and let me know if you have one allante

i bet i know just what it looks like but no i dont have one. However..there is a second hand one on ebay but i dont know if you can reprogram the infra red ones, i know you can do the wireless ones. I bet it looks like this one....

Ahh fell asleep after making that post lol, Yep thats exactly what the key looks like.
allante666
04-23-2008, 07:47 AM
and do you have any idea how to reprogram one? or does anyone? I think the two connectors you join together under the kickplate are just for the wireless ones.
So do you have keyless entry as well? if your car 'beeps' when you lift the handle after locking the door then you do. andif you do, I have the instructions for setting it up if you want
