i have a 2008 subaru legacy non turbo. with the (4eat?) is it possible to run my subaru in fwd to try and save fuel, but how long could i run it and what if any damage could it cause to the powertrain. i would just use the fwd in town and take it out when i go on the freeway.

You actually already do run in FWD 90% of the time. The 5EAT's run a similar torque split where the rear wheels only do 50% of the pushing when the fronts lose traction.

The only way to get 50/50 AWD 100% of the time is to leave the transmission in lower gears.

If you want to save fuel, buy a Toyota.

:smt109 UhYum... That's what we did. Got an '05 Xb. Aerodynamics are challenged, but sips slowly on the petrol

Seriously, read your manual. I believe it clarifies what they're telling you. If I remember correctly, From what I've learned, that switch should be used temporarily when you have put an odd wheel (ie. spare tire) on for emergency use. Also, keeping up on your maintenance is always a good way to get the best fuel economy.

It's for disconnecting the Duty C solenoid, enabling you to tow the car, nothing else. If it has a LSD in the rear, then the car comes with a full sized spare to prevent you from having to mess with fuses if you put the spare on.

why fwd?? awd only gets 1 less mpg at the most.
i believe the fuse should only be used for 25 miles at the most.

You can use the fuse for upwards of 250miles. I did this for several weeks while I was attempting to fix the torque bind problem I had in my old BD.

You don't save any MPG because you're still hauling the same WEIGHT, the rotating mass of the driveshaft to the rear wheels isn't large enough to make any difference.

I fixed the torque bind problem with a bottle of Lubegard ATF Protectant. 30,000 miles later, still no problems.

All I know is, this fuse is a amazing source of amusement at that ice-races. Great prank to pull of all those wussy-autotragic driving clowns.
