95 L Rear Drum to disc Conversion

Ok So I have the dreaded drums in the back of my 95 L. God awful looking things. Ive searched and havent seen any write ups about the swap, anyone do it? easy, hard, im not afraid to dig in and do the job.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is this for aesthetics? I doubt you gain much braking efficiency with the swap. Probably heavier overall too.

You gain the ability to run aggressive pads and rotors in the rear, thus helping shift your brake bias.

Worked well on my impreza, and the disc brake setup isn't much heavier that the stock drums.

drums will give better overall stoping power over disc. but rear drums can be overkill but have big problems with heat and cooling

well the big problem with drums is they overheat and the shoes turn to something like a grease substance, in anything than casual driving. disc vent better and are better for daily driving, and extreme driving but do not give the same braking proformance in drums. because a shoe pad on a drum covers 3/4 of the surface area. as disc pad only cover 1/6 to 1/4 of the surface area. the reason the switched to discs stay cool under extreme conditions and drums overheat very easy under high speed conditions

Boy I'm glad my L Wagon has ABS, and thus (supposedly according to the 1995 Legacy Service Manual), rear disc brakes :shock:!

Especially considering I'm on a set income, and have to make roughly 2500 dollars worth of repairs to mine as it is! (Actually, my rear brakes recently started giving ye olde "jet airliner taking off overhead" noise a week ago or so, so I'm fairly certain my rear discs are essentially plates of metal filings as we speak... ><)
