Why not just find an engine without the car?
Although, there are two SVX's that came up for sale around me (20mi) recently. One for 2200, the other for 4400.

I think if you're fortunate enough to even find and acquire an SVX, you should leave it's engine right where it is. I realize this is a Legacy fan board, but I'm sorry- parting out an SVX for the sake of a Legacy is just stupid.

Yeah, SVX's are hard enough to find to begin with. Also, Airgne, those eg33's are OBD1 motors...it's not going to play well with your OBD2 car, and it's just going to be a pain to wire.
EZ30 from an Outback would be more feasible; heck, it's even from the same generation as your car.

the 96 svx was obd2, but either way, the ez30 would probably be much easier to put into a BE, like much much easier.

I was shopping for one and I really loved it...until I drove it. I would say it's great for long haul commutes but definately not suited for the twisties
The other thing is, they aren't rare at all. Look through Ebay and Craigslist and there are a bunch of them for sale all the time. The transmissions are highly prone to failure so it's easy to find one with a bad tranny for $1000. %MT swap are the popular thing for them.

Price has nothing to do with rarity, it's irrelevant to the intrinsic value of the car. And as for the rarity and your ebay suggestion:
7 results for SVX
110 results for Legacy
Oh, your right, they're just everywhere aren't they. Not rare at all...
*edit: just for laughs I looked them up in all four zones of CT, my state, on craigslist too:
Again, 7 results for SVX
173 results for Legacy

they got a 93 svx at the local subie dealership only $10000
well if you want to mod the 3.3 the obd1 version is better for supporting mods. but if you want a protune go with the obd2 version
i think its pointless to put in the svx motor in you legacy unless you have big plan on making power with it. the svx are nice they come with a forged crank and semi forged rods a pistions. twin throttle bodys that flow 900cfm+ stock, 285lph fuel pump. but i dont think its worth just for the 250hp.
Airgne

yeah but 250hp is nice in a leggy. the jdm b4's come with 280. there are fast, so 250 would be pretty good. also they are very tourqie.

Stock, they're closer to 230hp.
A friend of mine that does a lot to SVX's put a spare engine he had into a 99 SUS that he bought with a bad HG. Of course the wiring was a mess but it is a blast to drive.
A couple of days after it was registered and legal, he hit a tree while playing in the woods of South Jersey. A few junkyard trips and about 4 hours in his shop later, and it was back on the road.

well, is there any particular reason why you have your heart set on the H6?
I'll be honest, it's not that spectacular of an engine when compared to similar V6's.
It just doesn't have that same performance potential as a turbo ej...

In the vids it reimds me of a srt-4, The engine is weighing down the front end at least this one is 4wd, If you do want to throw a Svx engine in a legacy i say use a wagon or upgrade the Suspension on the Sedan, not just springs, some good coil overs or a H6 Legacy suspension setup, but i think...not 100% sure on this but dont they use a different setup from regular legacies..?

i like turbos ej's, but they are a bitch to pass smog.i like the h6 because of the tq. if i could find a svx that is obdII i think it wouldnt be to bad. also i believe the svx are 50/50% tq spilt, and the leggies are 90/10% split.

You won't pass smog with the EG either because you're putting an older engine into your car (only of the same year or newer in most states that do smog).
Anyway, I'm not trying to deter you from doing it, but the ez30 would be an easier option to find IMO.
Heck, even try to find a crashed tribeca and get the ez36 from that.

Nope, other than the final drive ratio and a few extra clutch disks it the same tranny and it is controlled the same.

Cars101 is a great resource but they're not always right on with the details... The only SVX's with a 50/50 ratio are ones with a manual trans in them.
Besides the original poster never talked about doing a trans swap, just swapping the engine.

An ez30 would be much much easier if you're planning on going that route. Since the BE/BH outbacks had them it's a lot simpler than going with a turbo ej. Though if you're really set on this you might look into buying an outback with the h6 and lowering it.

I would rather see someone take the 3.6 from the new Tribeca and shoehorn it in.

It would be essentially the same swap as a new EZ30r, which is based off the EZ30 (go figure  ) and so would fit easily. It shouldn't be THAT much mroe difficult than a turbo ej swap, even with the different ECU.

The EZ30R is not an easy fit. Dimensionally the 3L engines are quite a bit longer.
