Question for Wagon Owners

Hey Everyone,
I used to own a 2.5 RS and I am looking at Legacy/Outback Wagons. I surf and I need to make sure my board will fit inside locked up.

What is the longest board you can lock inside your wagon?
(windshield to rear hatch)

I am wondering if my 9' 6" longboard will fit.

easier than that you could just strap it to the roof rack, I fit a 15' canoe on mine all the time.

I think locked up is the key word here. On the roof isn't locked up. I don't believe I have my tape measure up here at school, but I'm sure someone could take some measurements.

In my '02 Wagon I took a measurement from the furthest point forward to the rear glass and came up with approximately 9' 6", but I'd say my error is probably at least +/- 4".

So if you jammed the nose up to the front windshield, and took the fins off it might fit, but I'd honestly be surprised.

Just went out and measured my '97 Outback wagon for you. Hooked the end of the tape measure on the trip at the rear glass, pulled the tape measure body to the front, sitting on the dash, against the front windshield, and it's just over 10 feet. You'd most likely want to strap the board to the roof rack while driving, but it should fit inside when you're parked somewhere.

Just don't invite anyone with you and put it in angled and lean the passenger seat down haha.

If you put it in diagonally and it's only you in the car (fold down the passenger seat) then it should fit.

ok i live in one of the windsurfing capitol's of the world and i see ppl crusing in their outbacks but a special rack that holds three boards and their sails ect and it locks . im not sure of the cost though .
but im sure a board neary ten feel would fit in the back .

IIRC, the major manufacturers of roof racks make locks for most of their attachments. I seem to recall some of the guys around here being able to lock their snowboards and skis on their racks to deter theft. That may be a better option for you if you have the money.

i have a set of yakima ski and snowboard racks and they lock . you can get a set of racks with mounts and keys for 40 bucks . but these are for ski and snowboard racks i am not sure the price of surfboard racks.

I fit a 9' 6" in a bag by removing the headrests on the passenger side and laying it on top of the seats. It does block your vision on the right a bit, so be careful.......

Well I dunno if this helps, but I can fit at least one 16' (edit: may only be 12', but still definitely long) piece of bamboo into my car without the trunk open, but you have to kind of fit it into the passenger foot well. If you must ask why I know this, I've been known to hand make bamboo didgeridoos from time to time, and there happens to be a garden supply warehouse basically across the street (like 3-4 blocks away) who's major resource seems to be that they import bamboo in all shapes and sizes directly from China, so I get it for cheap. The funny part about all that is that I'm not joking xD
