I just had my car hit by a guy and i got some extra $ to fix it and i need to install a new suspension. I have a 95 BK and was wondering what would be a good suspension for a daily driver that on the weekends fo off roading and maybe soon start rallying. Someone brought u p the idea of forster rear struts and lowering springs. Whould this idea work? i want to keep the rid height the same or maybe lift it an inch or so. I was also wondering about what type of spring rates or what sompanies to look at for strut and springs. Also my sway bars broke/bent and i read taht sway bars off road are a pain but i still need to use it as a daily driver any suggestions there as well. thanks.

Get some outback suspension. 96 and up the outbacks were lifted. It's the easiest way and would work well. Then, with remaining money, get a skid plate. If you're serious about rallying anyhow. For sway bars, well, just remember stiffer makes undulating and uneven bumps upset the car more. Conversely, with increased body height, means more body roll and the need for more control over that.

So jut pretty much just get a set of struts from a outback. What about springs are there any kits out there that help my handeling while not lowering my vehicle? I also herd that most people for usually setu prun like 18 mm in the front and smaller in the back or the same. would this be good for me?

King springs lift and stiffen iirc.

You have a stock 18mm bar up front, and your rear is 14 (assuming you have an L or outback, not sure about LS or LSi models). You could grab a GT rear sway bar which is 16mm, and an outback rear sway bar is 18mm. Not sure on raising and stiffening the ride... How stiff do you really want to be while driving in the dirt? You'll always trade off one area for another when changing things around.

I looked up king springs. Ive never head of them before are they good?? also are the 2nd and 3rd Generation legacy wags have the same suspension setup so that i could swap in raising springs??

I've heard good things about King springs. BG/BH (2nd/3rd gen wagons) are different rear suspension setups so they arn't compatible.

does anyone know where to get King springs in the US i mean id rather not have to have them shipped from the factory unless i can get a good price on them which i cant even find a price on them. Also n the stiffness idean I want to have the best comprimise possible. Thats a pretty big thing to ask for but for the dirt shouldnt I go a bit softer to reduce down the impact from the hits on the body.

Alright so i finally got an email back from King springs today with the prices on my springs for my car. I was wondering if im going with 96 KYB Gr2 struts what other options do i have and about how much am i looking at price wise. thanks

im looking to also remain at stock height of a outback or lifit it a bit.

edit
i was looking and since ill be off road would it be worth the money to go with a set of bilstein struts. im going to have to change my top mounts for my struts anywase they have 100000on em

I got to thinking today and iw was wondering if it would be better for me to shell out a bit more cash for a set of coilovers hopefully used but if i did go with this would i have to change my tophats as well or would they come with them on the coilovers. Also does anyone know of any good options for coilovers for on road use but the occasional off road adventure in the 1000 range. thanks

Coilovers typically don't raise you very high...I know the TEINS will raise you about 1" higher than a stock L, which is about the height of a stock Outback.

As long as im about the heigth of a regular ouback im fine what about the spring rates will they support the extra weight out back that the wagon has

It seems you do not know exactly what you want and you are all over the place with your plans. Here is my advice:
Figure out what you want to do with the car and the suspension setup will be much easier to tailor to that use.

That said, you would probably be happy with Outback takeoff springs and struts.

I think you should look at Ground Control coilover sleeves. That would allow you to raise or lower the ride height as you desire. I know they make them for Impreza, I'm not sure about Legacy but I'd be willing to bet they would fit.

You could couple the Ground Control sleeves up with some adjustable KYB AGX shocks or just stick with Outback shocks.

As for swaybars, for rally, smaller is better. Some people even run no swaybar. I like the idea of having some control in that department but I'm more of an AutoX guy. For that reason I'd say compromise and go with stock Legacy swaybars or equivalent sized swaybars from another Subaru.

My plans are that i want to build this car into a rally car but I know that its going to be a couple of yeaers until I can have the resources to actually give rally a good shot. What i really want now is a good suspentions casue I drive pretty hard but i cant lower my car becasue i wont be able to get in my drive way at home. My car is a 95 wagon and isnt actually a outback and the next year in 96 they moved up to a longer strut and spring combo. I though about a stock newer outback suspension but while im going it I thogh why not get something better than stock. I have to change my tophats or top mounts so I think i have some pretty good possibilities for for some good suspension setups. I wanted coilovers bcasue of their adjustability and their toughness. I know that KYB has an adjustible strut but someone else they were poop so I know i dont want to go that way. Im just looking for a allaround suspension for a outback wagon and if its lowered a inch or so it will place me back where my car sets now which is fine.

Also ive already got my rollbar issue worked out and installed and i love my gt front 18mm and outback rear 19mm. Thank everyone for their help.

I just looked at the ground control coilover conversion and wow they are expensive 400 for a single coilover I mean isnt that close to a full set of good coilovers

That is for the whole kit, not just per corner. Silly goose.
