Should I take a sawzal to my exhaust

Hey there,

We're trying to put the Stromung axle back on and the midpipe flange is rusted to the muffler flange. IT's my understanding these pieces are separate - can I sawzal the muffler part off in between the flanges or is this a bad idea?

Urgent help appreciated.

Sawzall it off right after the cat, weld the muffler directly to the cat, and call it a day.

Use penetrating oil or grease or whatever on it, let it soak in, and try it again. Are the bolts rusted, or the pipes rusted together, like rust-welded? If the pipes rust-welded together, then just cut it, and have the new pipe welded on where you cut it.

I'm going to assume you removed the bolts. Try a few taps with a hammer.

I don't think you're going to be able to cleanly sawzall between the flanges. I think you might end up screwing it up and regretting your decision later.

If tapping it with a hammer doesn't work and you haven't taken the whole exhaust out of the car you might as well - it is a matter of minutes to drop it out. Then have a buddy stand on the mid pipe and you give the axle back a good kick, it should come apart without too much fuss.

I sawzalled clean between flanges, and drilled out the bolts. Cleaned up the holes and used stainless hardware.

i just look a cutoff wheel to the bolts.. that worked well
