Pulled into work this morning and took a quick look at my tires. 3 of them are wearing ok (I would like to get them replaced soon).

My front driver-side tire looks dangerous. I had never spent time looking at the inside of my tires until now. It's got significant wear on the inside and I am starting to see metal on the innermost tread!

I'm going to be calling my local tire place to get the tire replaced TODAY. There is a little bit of metal showing, but I'm not taking any chances - a friend of mine has a floor jack at work that I'm going to borrow at lunchtime to swap out my tire for the emergency if I can. Otherwise, the closest tire place where I work is going to get my business, I think...

Ack! This is no good.

You should probably replace at least two. and get an alignment.

Unevenly worn tires (side to side) will put unnecessary stress on your transfer clutch packs (in your 4EAT).

^^*off topic*

does the different tires rule only apply to the 4eat leggys? or the 5-speeds also?

The different tire rule applies to all Subies... but has bigger ramifications on the autos.

My local tire shop has one brand in a set of 4, so I could theoretically get all 4 replaced today. I am low on money, so I may have to put this on my emergency fund. It's in a money-market account.

Update: no-go for my emergency fund. I still have to wait another week for the account to be "confirmed" so I can make my emergency withdrawal from it. (My bank information has still not been approved yet, it'll be until next week when that's done.)

Any ideas? I'm going to have to hit a piece of plastic if I can't swing money from my fund... and I don't want to.

Hit the plastic; then pay it off when the emergency fund comes online (and then ditch the plastic ASAP). And kick up a stink at your bank, because having to wait a week for your account to be activated is ridiculous.
If I open up a checking account, I can get activation within 24hrs. Money market account shouldn't be any different.

Back OT - see if the tire shop will sell you (at a GREATLY REDUCED PRICE) two evenly worn tires of a similar tread design as you currently have. If you are running RE92s on your wheels you should be able to use any kind of all-season.

Then start saving up for a set of Falken ZIEX 512s because they're cheap, and they'll be good for your car in the long run.

I would have NEVER thought of requesting two evenly worn tires of a similar design. I'll have to ask about that.

I've always wanted to get a set of Falkens. What are the benefits of Falken ZIEX 512s?

The ZIEX 512s are cheap - around $50 per corner for stock sizing (205/55/16). They're also decent for light snow, and they resist hydroplaning well.

They will last around 25-30,000 miles if you rotate well, and they're cheap enough that you could actually buy a set of dedicated snow tires too.

Cons... they're a "high performance all-season" which they're not... they're a medium performance summer tire and a medium performance winter tire.

They will be rocking on my wagon as summer tires unless the Kumho ECSTA SPT comes in cheaper...

HOW in the world are you getting $50 pricing (approx) for those tires?! I would be all over those things like white on rice right now if I could. Do you get them and mount them yourself? Tirerack.com or something like that?

Wow...

Ok, I'm an idiot.

I was pricing Falken's for my wife's Accord, which rolls on 14" wheels.
205/55/16 ZIEX 512's will retail for about $80.
