so im going to start autocrossing this year. in the stock class. and im thinking about a 95-99 legacy but it will be become my DD also. well im modding my bd. so i cant deside if i should find a sedan or wagon. the wagon will be nice for more cargo space but will be less rigid in the rear. and the sedan will be more rigid and lighter in weight. just looking for ideas

That depends, are you transporting something big all the time that would require a wagon? Sedans have plenty of trunk space and the lighter weight will also give u more gas mileage. In conclusion, sedan.

It is nice to cruise up to an autox meet and just drop wheels out of your hatch.
With a nice strut brace the rear is as stiff as the sedan...though a little heavier.
But on cooler days you can stretch out in the back with the seats folded.

You'll be running in HS and you're going to want a GT (obivously...). Since mods are VERY limited in stock class and you can't really stiffen up the rear, get a sedan if maximum preformance is your mindset.
Granted, it probably doesn't matter at all because you'll only be competitive locally and will get killed at regional or national events no matter how prepped the car is. It's simply not a competitive car if that's what youre looking for.
With that in mind I will tell you that it matters little which you get, just make sure it's a GT model. As was said before, the convience of a wagon and being able to unload your R-comps and bolt them on then throw them in the back after is golden. Get what you like better as preformance will be similar.
P.S. - I voted sedan.

Get a tarp or a sheet. Put tires in backseat. :)

I got one of those, it's folded up and is underneath the rear trunk tray in the hatch...I can get 4 tires plus a jack, plus tools, plus air tank (if I had one) in the hatch and still rock 3 passengers.

I vote sedan. Stock, the 2.2 liter legacy wouldn't be very competitive, though the engine may handle the beating a bit more. The GT's probably what you want.
Remember, there are still some allowable mods in stock classes such as tires and wheels, as long as they are the same size as stock. Which is the true weakness of the L models in H stock...only 14 or 15" wheels an 195 width tires :-(.

And 1 piston brakes. At least the later L's and GTs get 2 piston brakes.
And with some nice aggressive rear pads and rotors you can get some nice brake bias...

195 is wahat i came with from the factory. It never says you can't run wider tires. Class leader locally runs 225 width Kumho V710s on a 5 inch wide wheel.
