View Full Version : Replacing strut assemblies; torque specs?

I'll be replacing my wife's decrepit BG suspension with one from a Saab 9-2x in a couple of weeks. I'll buying all new hardware to put on there (knuckles and tophats..maybe swaybars?) but have no idea what the torque specs are. I haven't looked yet, but I imagine we're only talking about 5 critical nuts/bolts for each corner: 3 on the tophat and 2 on the knuckle.
So three questions:
Are those the only critical nuts/bolts (besides swaybar links)?
What are the torque specs on those nuts/bolts?
Anything special to watch out for (besides the brake line keepers and PB Blaster)?
Thanks for the help!

120 ft.lbs ish for the knuckes
20 ft.lbs ish for the top hats

I would have to dig the fsm out to get you the exact specs

I'm not doing it for a couple of weeks--if you get the chance to look at your FSM, I'd appreciate it.
Otherwise, I'll figure 110ft/lbs for the knuckles (too many bad experiences overtorquing on a Saturday afternoon) and 240 in/lbs for the tophats. I see no reason why that would be excessive.

fsm says

knuckles 112+-14
tophats 14.5+-4.
top strut shaft 39.8+-3.6
endlinks 32.5 +- 4.3
sway bar bushing 18.1+- 5.1

Thanks, Sharky great info!
And Phux, I will take you up on that--never hurts to have a FSM at my disposal!
