I have a 1996 legacy gt TT and a 1997 GT TT. The 96 is an automatic and the 97 is a stick. I want to put the stick in the 96. Do you know of anyone that has mapped out a step by step of how to do it. I am pretty knowledgeable when it comes to automobiles, but I have never done this type of conversion before. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

We're getting more and more TT people on here. :D

Are you swapping the 5MT from the 97 to the 96? Or are you getting a gearbox and swapping it in from another car?

Basically, you're going to have lots of work, maybe check the swaps forum.

It should be plug and play for you.
You may need to use the 96 wiring harness, but it should all bolt right up.
You'll probably have to swap out the driveshaft to the rear wheels.

Only reason I recommend using the 96 wiring harness is that the 97 harness probably has an expansion for the auto tranny control unit (TCU). The 96 probably doesn't, and therefore won't kick up a hissy.

You'll also need to carry over the pedal box and shifter linkages...

bonus is you'll drop a few pounds in weight, and you might as well install a lightweight (14lbs?) flywheel at the same time.
