View Full Version : BE Wheel/Tire Fitment Question: 245/40 on 17x8 +48

Has anyone tried this set up on a BE (Sedan)? This would be on a slightly lowered, stiffer suspension (Whiteline Control/Bilstein).

I ran some searches and found a couple of people reporting no rubbing issues with 225/45 on 17x8 +48. Still, I haven't been able to locate a thread that gives a definitive answer to 245/40 on 17x8 +48. I'm also curious about 235/40, as well, if 245/40 is determined to be a no-go.

Please give your input if you've tried this or can say definitively that this would/wouldn't fit with out rubbing.

as far as toward the fender well you should be ok, I'm wondering about rubbing on the coil/strut.

Careful cause the BE has perches near the front wheels. The back fits bigger tires than the front does.

yep, front spring perches would be the biggest issue I think.

I know on stock sized wheels/tires there's only ~0.5-0.75" between the inner tire and the strut on the front. An 8" wheel with that offset would give you 18mm less clearance on the inside of the wheel (between the wheel and the strut), which might be cause for concern. Go out and measure to see how much room you have.

I'm on coils, but didn't have issues in the front (on a BG with smaller fenders) with an effective 245/40/17 on a 17x8 ET48. The "235's" on the Slipstreams, stacked flat and 4 high when mounted, were actually a hair *taller* than the stack of 245/40/17's on 17x8.5's I run on the STi, so it's a useful comparison; remember that which tire company you're going with is going to determine what a 235 or 245 is.


A 235/40 is easy; it's shorter and you're probably not going to have issues on moderate springs with decent damping. If it's for daily use, I'd stick with a 235 to make your life easy, though you'll have a touch more fender gap.
