Hey guys,

I've been searching lots but i'm getting conflicting information here.

To all the brake guru's out there,

Can i install a set of 05 Legacy GT brakes REAR, calipers, rotor and all that bolt on to a 2000 Legacy GT ? I am running 17 inch tires.

Thanks for the info guys.

Yes,

The 00 Legacy GT already has very large rear breakes though, and they might be identical in diameter, but vented instead of solid. You would benefit only slightly from this.

The fronts will fit right on. I had some on my 00 GT LTD but I just put on a set of WRX brakes instead.

Thanks DLC,

The reason is because i have an opportunity to buy a set of rear 05 Legacy brakes that someone wants to get rid of. I have to change my rear brakes, might as well upgrade.

So the 05 Legacy rear brakes will fit, no modification necessary? Take the old out and put the new in and Shazam, or whatever

Let me know,

Thanks

Brakes are 5 years newer, I'd jump on it.

the only modification you might need to do is remove or bend the dust shield if the rotors are larger

They're the same size, only vented. ALL BE/BH's got the "H6" rear brakes.

^ yes but were talking about bl/bp rear rotors

BEs can have problems with sticking rear calipers, so besides having the rears vented, you're also avoiding replacing the calipers on the stock ones.

That being said, I'd possibly buy one of your stock calipers if you do the swap :)

Go for it.

So you guys are saying that the rear caliper is the same from a 00 legacy to a 05 legacy.

I have an opportunity to buy REAR disc, caliper, pads, the whole assembly. Would i only benefit slightly from the vented disc only since the calipers are the same?

I WOULD have taught that the whole assembly is bigger/better since it's a newer car and i guess "sportier".

And you guys are sure that they will fit bolt on other than the bending/removing the dust shield.

What do you guys think, is it worth the upgrade for rear 05 legacy brake assembly or simply replace my stock 00 rear brake assembly?

The deal is going to be 275$ for the 05 rear assembly.

how much will replacing rotors and pads for rear 00 legacy cost, i would say around 200$ in parts (50 per rotor, 100 for pads).

Let me know.

My personal opinion is that the stock brake sizes are good enough but OEM material for pads and rotors is not.
If I were you I would get cryo treated rotors or brembo plain rotors and Hawk HPS brake pads. You'll get the best of all worlds for about the same price.

No, we're saying the LGT and the BE rear has the same SIZE disc rotors. Only the LGT has vented instead of solid for better cooling. The calipers are different of course. Most of the braking is done by the front brakes, so if you want more braking power, upgrade the fronts first. The back isn't doing much and I have yet to hear a BE/BH owner who track their car warp the rear rotor. But if youre set on getting the rear bl/bp brakes, then go for it, it's completely bolt-on.

Rotors and pads are cheap on the BE - autozone rear rotors are $25 each and get some aggressive pads in the rear to shift some more brake bias rearward for around $70-90.

Cool, thanks for the info.

It's because i will have to change the brakes this summer and already have the brembos up front and stock on the back. Might as well upgrade what i can, the brembos are pretty good but the stock in the back, meh.

Thanks again.

Using the LGT rears won't change your brake bias because it's still the same diameter rotor. Using a more aggressive pad in the back is usually done to shift some bias to the rear.

Front Brembos are hard to calibrate/tune with anything but matching rear brembos in the rear because they're so big, and require a lot of brake pressure that it tends to shift a lot of bias to the front. Often case this is why people get worse braking performance when they just upgrade to the front brembos...throwing more parts in the rear without any research isn't going to help it.

NASIOC brake forum has more ideas on how to get the most out running front brembo calipers + other brake modifications.

Rougeben,

I wasn't complaining on the brake bias of my car, i was asking questions about differences between a 00/05 rear brake setup. With the brembos in front and the stock 00 legacy in the back i have to contradict you and say that the braking improved tremendously and i never felt any brake bias problem while braking hard. Of course i don't track my car it's a daily driver, maybe if i go on a track and my push my car to limits i may see a difference.

My first choice would have to simply buy cheap blank rotors for the back and hawk HPS pads and maybe change the brake fluid at the same time but i got a killer deal on set of rear 05 leg brake kit. Hence why i was asking you guys some questions about install issues and performance of the brakes. Since with all you guy's info i see that the only difference between the brakes are the vented rotor, i will probably opt for staying stock in the back and get better pads/fluid or even some SS lines.

I think you should chill out before saying someone slaps on various parts without research, if you re-read this thread, it's actually good research, you guys gave me all the answers.

ben's not criticizing - that's how he posts.

If you do anything, upgrade your pads in the rear. I think you'll notice a difference.

not criticizing. I'm just giving you things you may want to think about when it comes to brake upgrades.

They usually fall into two categories; functionality and show. There are plenty of bling-bling upgrades out there that *look* like they're superior, but theyre really not, or even worse than stock. On the other hand there are some fuddy looking brake upgrades (mostly the OEM stuff) that don't look like much but can give you a lot of bang for the buck when it comes to actually stopping the car.

If you want something that looks nice to complement the gold calipers in the front, then there's nothing wrong with that. But clearly establish what you want out of your brake upgrade first before putting down cash on anything.

What are some of these "fuddy looking brake upgrades"?

rougeben83

Usually its just taking the bigger brakes from another subaru.

So if you have an L with single pistons, you can get RS 10.7" 2 piston brakes, if you have the 10.7, WRX 11.4" 2 piston or 4 pot brakes are next, then 12.3" LGT 2 piston brakes...

The fronts are pretty much bolt on upgrades.

The rears are little more tricky, but is easily applies. The easiest/most cost effective one to do seems to be the 11.3" nonvented rear brakes from BE/BH legacies (aka the "H6" brake upgrade).
