Good post I was going to ask the same question I'm torn between a outback wagon or a Legacy Sedan Not 100% sure yet.. I find it's harder to make the Wagon look more sporty.

Question are those OEM stock Subaru foglights? I only seen maybe one or two on ebay.

Wiscon_Mark
05-23-2008, 06:07 PM
Those are OEM on the 95 and 96 Legacys (and some 97s I believe that had the older style bumper) in the US, and can also be found from the Japanese market as well. Those fogs are actually my old ones :)

ok one more question :P

The projector foglights for that model are JDM right? It's hard to tell but the reflector type is for the U.S. market?

As to my foglights, they are wiscon_mark's old foglights. They are a US and japanese item (mine are stamped as japanese manufacture). There is also a non-projector style foglight that is the same shape that was sold in the US. Should be able to pick these up for around $40-50. They used to be on ebay alot, my guess is they'll have another surge. The yellow was then done after the fact with some stained glass paint.

Legacy, now I know where the light protectors went  Oh, and did you paint your highbeam reflectors black???

Ah Ok.. I'm looking at now is a Glacier White/Tan 97 Outback Wagon 5MT.

only thing is how to overall make it look nicer looking.. I wont say I wont go after this or not since I'm looking at a few others in a few other colors as well.

I guess if it comes with no rear wing it needs to be drilled in.

Huffer
05-26-2008, 12:23 PM
Rear wing can be glued on with industrial adhesive.
My rear wing on my Impreza GF has been on that way for 4 years.

I have a question about lower profile tires.. stock is 205/70-15 right?

If I get a tire with a smaller sidewall what size would I have to make up for it? 17? I would be very likely into changing stock struts and springs out and giving a little drop.. but not too low due to some unplowed streets during the winter.

And with the wing and the tape you never had any issues with like 90F+ heat?

Stock is whatever comes on the vehicle from factory. Stock differs on trim level and factory spec.

There are threads in wheel/tire that can help you.

Wing + industrial glue (not tape) = no problems with heat or cold.

Legacy, now I know where the light protectors went  Oh, and did you paint your highbeam reflectors black???

A while back ago, I saw a post for DIY yellow turn signal delete. When I opened it up, I though of painting all the chrome pieces in the housing black. I am glad I did. I first did my stock headlights, looked good, but I couldn't see a thing at night. Works better if you have the projectors.

Plays_with_Toys
05-27-2008, 02:18 PM
Right, so you can't use your highbeams then because they're black, right? I painted mine with yellow stain, but the lights are definately useable.

Legacy
05-27-2008, 05:21 PM
I actually use the high beam part as my city lights and the projectors as my high beam. I'll try to take some night shots.

Plays_with_Toys

haha. Nice. It was raining pretty bad today, so I had my highbeams on, and no one flashed me. The yellow definitely has an effect of changing how the light is perceived.

i love having the racks i used them almost three times a week this winter. i am running gf impreza springs with spacers in the front and rear beacsue the springs actually lowered my car almost three inches im guessing , i have to use 2 one inch spacers in the rear and one in the front springs to stop rubbing while hard cornering .

The wagons came with headrests. If yours didn't, it means the prev. owner threw them out/lost them.

This is hilarious. This past weekend my Sister came into town with the BK (a '95). I had pulled some rear headrests out of an Outback from the yard a week prior for it. Its a bummer I didn't remember that the '95's don't even have the proper holes for the head rests! - So ghetto. I'm going to go back to the yard and pull the rest of the back seat and re-upholster it. I'm going to use the fabric and everything from an '02-'03 WRX wagon. Should be a fun project.

I'm pretty sure that when my wife and I are done paying for our cars, my gt sedan will get traded in, she'll buy a Prius, and I'll start tinkering on her Outback. (I can't decide whether I'm going to keep the exterior trim as is, or if I'm going to begin a rather audacious and highly suspect project to turn it into a jdm gt wagon.)

What can I say, I've been bitten by the wagon bug. Badly.

Heated seats are only good once they're on. The initial bite creates pucker.

Height adjustment on the GT's and Outbacks 95-99 is with a handle on the left-hand side.

My kids don't get along with cloth very well. Our Scion was proof of that.

A pair of MoMo Coarse seats, or another set or factory Subaru seats (not sure what model yet) would eventually replace these. The MoMo's were from a customers 996 track day car. Both all black, and would look nice, but all along I've been trying to keep my wagon with OEM Subaru parts. These seats would be nice to have, but could be overkill for a car with no go mods. All show, No go??

Ooooo, is that what i think it is, JDM rear garnish?Actually ita all stock headlights and tail lights. The spot lights on the back were $10 plus wiring and switch. The ones on the front were $17 including wiring and switch but I opted for a different switch. The fogs were $10.

Reuben

Factory garnish? i seee.. The other "world" market ganishes (ones that say SUBARU instead of LEGACY, such as AUDM, and NZDM), don't get the lights in the garnish, only on the tails. Little fact i've always found odd, and never liked about my old BG liberty...

Argh, getting too geeky here :<

Can we see a view of the rear? Curious to see what you've done with the taillights and everything else. Can't really see from the side shot but looks interesting. Nice wagon!

Cheers for the nice comments all :D

BenO
05-21-2009, 10:53 PM
Corz: they are JDM taillights. Subaru of America got screwed over in a lot of things like projector head and fog lights, the taillights that you see on lots of people's cars, side markers, better engines, and tons of other things.

ebay has them, if you look in the classifieds here there are some to be found. also, I think andivic on here sells a lot of JDM things. If you PM him he can get you things

I've only ever seen ONE person ever on the road here with JDM projector headlights (before I had my legacy)

I see other legacy owners glance over if I have my headlights on thinking where did he get those from.

And my JDM taillights they are so much smoother as far as blending with the body.

Why would you say that? We are some of the nicest people you could ever meet. Even to people who call and ask "if Subarus are now using that new technology where they have coil on plug design which does not require the use of spark plugs" As much as that would make anyone want to bust out laughing and hang up, we are still polite and nice about it and take the time to educate people that spark plugs are a necessity in any engine. I'd be interested to know who you thought was rude, i wonder if it was someone who isn't even an employee of ECS that happened to have on a shirt or hat or something and you were mistaken.

1.7L??? sooo weak and slow....

but man reading this really changed my opinion about my dad making me drive a station wagon. i will probably get a Red 1997 Legacy L and after reading this i really dont mind it.... i hope he will let me put some new rims on it at least. but it really needs a new paint job on the front end. the person who repainted it after it was in an accident did a sorry job on the clear coat and now its peeling.

Thought I would bring the wagon mafia back. I went to a suby car show at Gillman Subaru in Houston, TX and they had shop day, food, and many other things plus they had Dave Mirra there signing autographs. Well while I was there I saw a booth for undergroundgraphics.com and I just had to pick me up a wagon mafia sticker and a few others. What do you think?

I used to have a lot more but I have taken a bunch of them off. The Muzzy stickers are because I only use their bowfishing arrows when I go bowfishing and shoot tournaments. I need to find another redneck sticker to replace the one at the top center of my back window but I may put it lower.
