View Full Version : Can I put the struts off of my outback on my regular legacy?

I have a 97 legacy wagon that needs new struts. And tires.

I also have a 99 outback that is totaled, but the struts and tires are NEW on it (as in, just replaced a week before the accident). Do you think that I could put them on my wagon? I know that the tires are bigger, the fronts fit fine but the rears hit my stock springs. I was thinking that if I could put the stuts/springs from my outback on them....maybe I could use the tires? What a waste if I can't - lol!

Thanks for any help!

Hello,

You can reuse the struts however they are longer than your regular Legacy struts and the Legacy will ride a little higher. Not much, because you won't have the body spacers that change the geometry.

You should then be able to use the outback wheels also.

You should swap over as much as you can from the wrecked outback, or keep parts around for replacement purposes.

they are about 1 1/2 inches taller, I've already measured. Thank you! I was hoping that I could use them.

Thank you again!

Like was already said, the car will be a little taller (more like the outback was) but they should bolt in no problems. Also like he said, because you have two cars of the same generation/body type, you can swap around other things too (seats for example) So if there is something nice on the wrecked car that you'd like to swap over, they'll work as well.
