Did the 2.2L have a dual or single port headers? I'm thinking it was single?

The Legacy generally has dual-port heads, while the Impreza had single-port.

I'm sure this has been covered over on NASIOC in finer detail, but that's the broad answer.

I was not too sure what to type in to search at NASIOC but from what it seems like is the 2.2l after 96 had a single port.

the single port exhaust heads started in mid 96 on the EJ22's, regardless of legacy vs. impreza.

^^^ It's dependent on year more than anything else. Not trim. From 90-96 was dual port with hydraulic lash adjusters, mid 96 and on was single port with solid lifters.

Mine's a mid 96 (build date of july 95, but is a 96 model year) and it has single port exhaust with hydraulic lash adjusters, a cross over motor from the transition phase.

So from what I understand the 2.2L after the year 1996 were all single ports until Subaru went with 2.5L for all Legacies I think which was in 1999 or 2000?

so much for Changing the headers

the single port headers are about $300 or so more then the dual ports for whatever reason.. still crappy welding from what I hear.

*edit ok seems like subaruparts has a better deal.

I have a 99 BK (L wagon 30th Ann.) with the 2.2l. It is the single port 2.2L. As I recall, the second generation 2.2L, only found in the Legacy on the 98-99 model year. I could be totally wrong, but that is what I remember hearing.

That's awesomely wrong information.

Basically it''s mixed from 97+ and all 95's were dual while all 96's are single.

Im asking because im looking at this 95 LSI sedan from what it seems like the LSI was like the GT model that came in the later year but just with the 2.2L engine?

The GT was introduced in 1997, with VERY VERY few being around in 1996.

The LSI did come with a 2.2. In 1995, it would be dual port.

I've never really seen any GT models here a few but not to the amount that I see an outback wagon over various years.

I think I will check with this dealership on tuesday to find out about this 98 outback.. timing belt was changed as well as the water pump. has about 175K I figure with the work I have planned it wont be too much of an issue.

only thing is I don't know if they made a mistake on the listing but the car sure does look blue/Tan to me where they list it as green...

I know someone with the same color as they are selling and no way is it green.

On the plus side it's a stick... The bad side (maybe) driving it home in NYC traffic...
