A couple months back I noticed I had some smoking from under the hood. Popped the hood looked around looked from the passenger side and noticed some leakage from the transmission area. On the transmission I noticed there was the little machined openning about the size of a quarter give or take. It seem to have a rubber insert with a small holed and the openning itself seem to have threads in it as well. a bit of transmission fluid puddled in it too. Still I thought could be something seal related, didn't worry to much and tried some additives that were known for fattening up seals. Seemed to work a bit and I never had transmission leakage to the extent of puddles under my car. I checked the fluid regularly and would add some here and there if needed ( That dipstick sucks by the way. Impossible to a get a good read). As of recently it started up again. Drive for awhile stop a light or something and there would be some solid smoke. Worse at times then others. My theory is that if the leakage thats causing the smoke is directly from a poor seal then its from that circular openning. It may puddle up or leak the drop onto the exhaust create the smoke ( the cat is right there, makes sense). I would like to know if there is a threaded insert that is intended to fit in this openning. I tooka picture standing from the passenger side looking down at the transmission and circled the openning I'm speaking of. So check out guys and let me know. Thanks!!

Mmmhm. Its red. I checked on a friends 96 Legacy. It didn't have any type of cap or anything but the rubber seal was much stronger and not as flexable. What I may do is find a sealant and see if that works. Maybe its just some sort of dry rotted seal. I don't know....
