Tranny swap ECU question

I have everything I need to do an automatic to manual tranny swap. The only thing I dont understand is the ECU part of it. I am great with mechanical stuff, but the electronic part of it may as well be written in chinese for me. I read through the tranny swap "sticky" already, but I still dont understand what needs to be done with the ecu. How can you tell what wire is what. Anyone have an easier explanation on this topic?

You need the pinout diagrams for both cars... both TCU and ECU.

cant you swap the ecu?wait wait... (thinking)......so you would need the ecu and the whole engine/dash harness to make life plug n play? correct? i too want to do a AT to MT swap because i have a bad habit of touge racing..

Does the M/T Legacy have a TCU also?

might have sounded like a dumb question because it is, reason why i asked was because my white car that i swapped the gearbox into Did Not have one and the GTB did, it seemed like the mechanics swaped everything over to the GT, i did not know that lol
